Re: Domino's Pizza is testing out self-driving pizza delivery cars!

They can't make a decent fucking pizza, but I'm supposed to trust them with self-driving cars??

Re: Domino's Pizza is testing out self-driving pizza delivery cars!

The only thing that pops into my head about self-driving pizza delivery is no tip. Other than that, it takes yet another job away from some kid who couldn't afford to go to college (or didn't want to pay for it for the rest of his natural life).

One would argue that many more jobs would be created from the creation and maintenance of self-driving cars and the likes.

Back in the 1900's, people made the same argument about the automobile, saying how it would take jobs away from blacksmiths and others who maintained horse and buggies. Instead, Henry Ford created tens of thousands of well-paying jobs while offering more efficient modes of transportation.

Food for thought.

I would imagine that creation and maintenance of self-driving cars will go to skilled workers, which are not the people kd5 is talking about.

Are you saying in general, or specifically with regards to Dominos switching to self driving cars?

Both.. Look, I've heard numerous complaints about autonomous cars and how they're going to cost lots of people their jobs (cops can't ticket cars that won't speed, traffic attorneys won't have much work, Uber drivers will be a thing of the past, etc).

On the flipside, I believe that the autonomous vehicles and the infrastructure they'll rely on will require a labor force of their own.

Case in point, EZ-Pass. It drastically reduced the need for toll both collectors, but it generated far more jobs on the backend.
