New landlord is slow to respond

I signed a lease last month for a new place where I could move in on September 1st. I met the owners, visited the apartment, signed the lease and paid the last month's rent.

I emailed the landlord on Monday to ask when it would be possible to visit the apartment this month to take measurements, etc. (which we discussed in person when we met) and to please send me an electronic version of the lease.

It has been 2 days and I still haven't heard back from her.

Should I be worried? I only have pictures of the lease I signed in person at the moment since she said she would scan it and send it to me. I don't see her address on it. Just her name as well as her husband's name with their phone number.

Should I call or text them to follow-up?

My paranoid side is starting to worry I've been scammed.

Yes, call. Yes, Google her name. My city webpage shows the owner of properties.

It's probably nothing, but fake rental is a real scam.

I googled both owners and they seem to be who they said they were. One works for the federal government, the other works for the city. Maybe they're just busy but I would have appreciated a timely reply to at least let me know they received my email and would get back to me later.

Re: New landlord is slow to respond

Despite people like us, not everybody spends every hour connected to his/her e-mail. Add to that spam filters, people not opening e-mails from strange addresses, etc.

A phone call would not be out of line. In fact, it probably would have been more appropriate in the first place.

Re: New landlord is slow to respond

I'd be worried about any landlord that didn't give me a paper copy of the signed lease on the spot.

Sounds shady, at worst. At best? I wouldn't be expecting great service if you have maintenance issues in the future.

Patented Lunatikk Advice: go to the new apartment and burn the place to the ground.

Maybe Alan Smithee sniped the place away from you. I heard he was looking to add a DIVX section to his collection.

Sorry. I ended up texting the landlord who said she never received my email. Apparently it went to her Jjnk folder. Everything is now solved.

You fuck with one of us, you fuck with all of us. We landlords are a petty bunch.

As long as the landlord is not on your case about cleanliness.
