Re: Amazon is buying Whole Foods for $13.7 billion

Not that I shop at Whole Foods much, but as a Prime subscriber it sounds good to me. Amazon's done a good job adding value to Prime, in my opinion. (and no matter what zyzzle says)

Hey... I had my Sea Foam Greens last night. It was more than $6.99, and delicious. I like to think it's somehow healthy too. I'll let you know in 70 years if it was worth it.

Re: Amazon is buying Whole Foods for $13.7 billion

Also, I don't buy much pre-packed goods at Whole Foods. Mostly produce and their pre-made foods.

I really hope they don't drop the quality of any of their fresh foods. It's the only grocery store around that's reliably fresh. The next best is a Fry's. But they're not as dependable ... some good, some bad.

I'm fairly sure we'll see an increase in the cost of Prime sometime soon...

I don't have a Whole Foods within 10-15 miles of me, so this is of no use to me, unfortunately.

Does WF have a rewards program now? I don't shop there that often, but I'm not aware of one.

no rewards program (at least not as of now), but you can sign up and get weekly coupons and discounts for their stuff. I use them from time to time.

Re: Amazon is buying Whole Foods for $13.7 billion

Love WF. Love Amazon.

Get back in town on Wednesday and hope I'm not to late to grab a case of freshly roasted hatch green chili. Hope the lower the prices at the bar and growler fills. Tho in all honesty growler fills were a good deal. But they discontinued happy hour ;(

A colleague from work posted this today. Apparently Amazon echos qualify as Whole Foods farm fresh merchandise:

Re: Amazon is buying Whole Foods for $13.7 billion

I've seen a list of price comparisons. Amazon seems to have lowered a few of Whole Foods' most overpriced organic food staples like bananas and salmon. The chain is still more expensive in comparison to other comparable grocery stores.

Re: Amazon is buying Whole Foods for $13.7 billion

I had a bad experience at Whole Foods yesterday. Rich white guy problems, I know. But the habanero chile salmon was shit (and I buy it all the time). And I stood around for five minutes waiting for someone to show up at the seafood counter. Maybe coincidence ... maybe a preview of what's to come.

Amazon also removed the sitting/waiting area at the smoothie/coffee/juice cafe. So now you have to awkwardly stand in the walkway for a few minutes while people are walking by.

They also reduced their pet selection to 10% of what it was.

Amazon is all about being lean. If a product doesn't sell well, they won't stock it. If square feet aren't making money, they'll change it. If they can pay employees less, they will. If they can pay vendors less, they will (and now that dips into smaller artisan manufacturers).

I hope the "luxury" part doesn't disappear. If it does, and I get annoyed too much, I'll be switching to AJ's - or maybe some other premium grocery store will pop up to fill the market needs.

I was never looking for low prices at Whole Foods. It's the service and product. I'm skeptical that Amazon will maintain these standards. I also understand that my local Whole Foods is better than many. I've been to other locations and have been disappointed. But my nearby one has always been top notch.
