Re: Tip for visiting Disney World?

Horrible.

I remember when a kid somehow drowned in a full pool and lifeguards on duty at the art of animation disney hotel. His parents said they only lost him for a "few minutes".

I doubt it. I've been waiting for the outcry. None that I've seen yet...interesting.

Maybe it will show up once they show the family? /sarcasm

My heart goes out to the family. I can't even imagine....

Re: Tip for visiting Disney World?

What happened with the gorilla? Father was holding kid over rial, dropped him and police shot the gorilla nearest the kid?

Kayaking is pretty popular around Disney too. I always refused - gators were a concern but also was too hot.

You somehow miss this event/news item from a few weeks ago?

http://forum.dvdtalk.com/other-talk/...e-gorilla.html

(Note that the subject line has been edited/reversed by a mod being goofy.)

Short version is that the kid scaled a 3 foot fence, crawled through some dense shrubbery, and dove 15 feet into a moat in the gorilla enclosure. Gorrila dragged the kid around and was shot by the zoo's response team.

I was also six at the time and remember how horrified the community was by this. Bill Haast, the owner of the Serpentarium (who had been bit by snakes so many times, he developed a natural immunity and they regularly used his blood to manufacture anti-venom), euthanized Cookie later that night and buried her on the property. It was just what was done when predators attacked humans.

Incidentally, the boy's parents never sued. It was a way different time.

When you're searching for someone, you need to know if you can stop. As horrible as it might be, the family needs closure and to properly take care of his remains.

Re: Tip for visiting Disney World?

When we visited WDW in the 70s, my Dad went golfing on one of their courses and saw alligators in the water hazards.

No way Disney can get rid of all alligators on their property. Best they can do is implant an alarm clock into each and every one so that you can hear them coming.

Don't bring your tips for visiting Disney World in here, this thread is about alligator attacks.

Alligator Grabs Child From Parent Without Asking For Permission

http://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/...resort-n592641

Quote:
Florida authorities have found the body of a 2-year-old boy who was dragged off by an alligator Tuesday night at Disney resort.

The Nebraska toddler was playing in the water on a beach area near Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa at 9:16 p.m. Tuesday when the alligator snatched him and dragged him underwater in front of his horrified parents. The father tried to get his son back, but wasn't able to, Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings said.

Demings said the boy's body was found at about 1:45 p.m. ET Wednesday, and the remains were fully recovered at about 3:30 p.m.

The grisly discovery brought to a close a search that involved more than 50 law enforcement officials, including Marine units who relied on sonar equipment to look for the boy in the lake. Initially a search-and-rescue operation, Demings said at a noon press conference there was "no question" the boy was dead after so many hours underwater and that the hunt had turned into a recovery effort.

But he had vowed to continue searching until the boy's body was found.

"I just happen to have a 2-year-old grandson, so for me, this is a very human experience that we are talking about, where we are dealing with this family now who there's no question will lose a 2-year-old child," he said.

The family was visiting the Seven Seas Lagoon from Nebraska, according to Demings, and was identified as Matt and Melissa Graves. The two-year-old was Lane Graves.
Currently, 5 alligators have been killed in an attempt to find the "real killer".

Oh there's the Disney World Thread!

Of course, the Disney World thread is much more about other things than alligator attacks.

It's a terrible incident so I am just waiting to see what we can ban over this whole thing.

Ban alligators that have a muzzle more than 2ft long.

I was going to weigh in on how horrifying this experience would be for this family, but you guys already seem to be having plenty of fun in here.

If the kid had been armed he could have shot the alligator.

I am also sure that Obama tied steaks to the kid's feet and covered him him in blood.

No Nazi racist jokes in here, disguised in humorous monologue. I thought you'd be ok with that. You're a very difficult person to satisfy.

I didn't intend for it be news to anyone. Just offering my perspective.

Still, don't want to get in the way of the jokes. Have fun everyone!
