We had "thunder sleet" yesterday. Or tiny hail depending on how you look at it. Was waiting for the locus.

Re: Winterpocalypse 2016!

I woke up early to get some more salt from HD. Saw they had some shovels so I grabbed one since mine are really old. Walked around the store for 10 minutes getting some other things. Guy came up to me and asked where I got it. "The garden aisle". They were sold out of 1000 bags of salt and 200 shovels in 10 minutes.

In Newberry, the Upper Peninsula Michigan town that my dad and three of my brothers live in and around, there are about 20 inches of snow and more falling. Unlike KC, the UP is used to snow so they have not ground to a screeching halt.
20 inches in the UP?

Normal weather.

(I spent a year at Michigan Tech and another couple of years visiting my friends there).

Re: Winterpocalypse 2016!

I live about an hour south of KC and outside of some ice Tuesday and some snow dusting last night it has been a lackluster winter. No real long extended cold snaps or anything either like all those long term planners were predicting. It's going to be 50 here Sunday. I want me a damn 2 foot blizzard with 50 mph winds like we got in 2011

Looks like north of Boston we're going to get just about....nothing! After last year, I like the sound of that.

Back during summer they were saying the Midwest was going to have a mild winter due to El Nino. Looks like they were right.

Spoiler:
That was last winter in Buffalo. This has nothing to do with Snowmageddon '16, but it's still pretty wow-worthy.

Re: Winterpocalypse 2016!

Yeah that non moving wall of snow was crazy last year. Luckily I was just a couple miles north of that and we had almost no snow, but when I saw it during my drive to work I thought "Poor bastards, I'm glad I'm on this side of it!"

We got about a foot of snow overnight, and are expecting another 12" throughout the day.

That moment when you wake up at 9:00am (it's Saturday, dammit) and realize that your 60+ year-old neighbor has already shoveled your sidewalks for you and you know you're going to feel guilty all day.

It's 38 and miserable (super windy and wet) here in Florida. Had some flurries near Tallahassee though.

It's so hysterical when people who aren't in an area affected by the weather the thread is discussing make sure to tell everybody they're not affected by the weather.

Keep it coming! It never gets old.

Re: Winterpocalypse 2016!

Can someone answer me this.

If you live in this area, one that gets snow and ice, yet you slip and slide every time, why the fuck do you not have tire chains!!!!
I swear. Every time I see the news reporting on weather conditions like this, I always see footage of cars going nowhere, but spinning their wheels as if they hope to wear down the ice and eventually grip the road.
Are East Coast drivers to proud to put tire chains on when they know damn well the situation?

I also have to comment on those stuck on roadways. Why the fuck did you go out knowing a 'Day After Tomorrow' was happening
Again. Too proud? Stay the fuck inside. Leave work early to avoid it.

Re: Winterpocalypse 2016!

It's interesting how the news doesn't make much fun of people stockpiling groceries and continually implies "IT REALLY REALLY COULD GET POSSIBLY BAD!!!!", and the newscasters actually encourage stockpiling when this storm is going to last maybe a few days and into Monday...but then warm up, producing typical flood situations.

Never understood why people stockpile anything. Don't you have anything to eat at home for the next 24 hours? I'm sure pretty much everyone could survive a week with what they have on hand.

Gotcha ya.

About 61 degrees (which is colder than usual) with light sprinkles.

Supposed to be in the seventies next week.

Re: Winterpocalypse 2016!

People in the Mid-Atlantic area go absolutely nuts whenever the local news warns about any serious storm. It's like they've never lived through a snowstorm before. I think it's due to many residents being transplants from warmer regions of the country with little experience. The local news always sensationalizes the impact of these storms. You would think people would learn after living through one or two of these things before.
