When did Goodwill get so expensive?

Girlfriend and I went in to look for some lightly used patio furniture started looking through clothes 12.99 for a button up denim shirt, $14.99 for some shoes. Can't even get a sweater for less than $8. I remember when this stuff was like under five bucks. H&M and Gap you can get new stuff for around the same prices. Fuckin' hipsters.

Re: When did Goodwill get so expensive?

The few stops I've made at various stores have led me to believe the pricing is different from one location to another.

I was there and they wanted $6 for a coffee table. I said, "FUCK YOU!" and walked out. Later I came back and offered the $3 it was worth and I got it.

Re: When did Goodwill get so expensive?

Yeah, try different thrift stores. The ones in more unfavorable areas of town are always cheaper. I go to one run by the Latter-Day Saints and their stuff is awfully cheap compared to other stores. It also feels more like a store than it does a thrift shop. It's about the size of a Walmart.

Re: When did Goodwill get so expensive?

I was like wtf is a buckyball? Then I googled it.

My girlfriend watches all this Bravo/TLC home decoration reality show stuff so I go to flea markets and garage sales a lot with her to buy random stuff like vintage pots, lamps, umm whatever.I guess it saves money I just prefer going to Ikea cause they have food.

There's not a lot of DVDtalk members who own yachts.

Re: When did Goodwill get so expensive?

They recently opened a new "upscale" goodwill in Cherry Creek. One of the ritzier shopping areas in Denver. They pick the nicest brand name stuff from all their dropoff sites and take it to Deja Blue boutique to be resold. Deja Blue

Yeah, I've never understood shopping at Goodwill myself, but to each their own I guess.

It's just recycling. People get rid of good stuff sometimes.

Speaking of which some dude found a Picasso.

I cycled once, didn't like it. I seriously doubt I'll ever recycle.

My ratio of leaving at Goodwill vs. buying at Goodwill is easily 100:1.

Me too. I have a problem wearing used clothing in general in that I won't. I did run across a pair of Banana Republic wool dress pants with the tags still on priced at $125 for less than 5 bucks.

Very likely, my wife and I have found more than a few gems at various locations.

Ever go to garage sales? Same thing: a lot of crap, but the occasional great find plus lots of nice little finds.

Lots of them have DVDs, most are crap, but there's still good ones here and there. And tons of books. Most of my book buying these days is from Goodwill and similar stores.

There's another chain called Savers. Last weekend I found seven bags of loose Lego pieces, $2-$3 each, that ended up having several dozen Star Wars mini-figs and a ton of really neat pieces.

Cool. It's hard to find home decor that matches your wardrobe.
