Let there be light, beeeyatch!
2 years ago I had a bunch of electrical work done at my property, mainly burying overhead electrical line, etc. As part of the job I had them put in a generator backup for power. Essentially, when power goes out, I get the 2 Honda Generators out and light this bitch up. Dish Network works great since it is not local. Internet is wireless, and works great, I can lose my primate brothers and sisters and live like a human.
Naturally, an electrical storm just hit. I always give it 30 minutes for power to be restored since they are very good about it. But it has been off for awhile, so I fired up the generators, and I am back out of the stone ages. So remember, life sucks without tv and the internet, so when you buy a place, put in a backup for power. You may only use it once every 4 years, but it will still feel worth it when you do use it.

I had my internet turned off due to lack of payment. It was the worst 10 hours of my life.

Re: Let there be light, beeeyatch!
I use a CPAP when I sleep. I was surprised and annoyed last summer when I learned that if the power goes out at 11:00 at night, I can't sleep.
I got some surplus industrial UPS boxes. Those puppies cost about $1200 each when new. Now we each have about six hours battery backup to get us through the night.

Wow, they're a lot more expensive than I had imagined. $7500 is a lot just to be able to watch TV.

Quit whining about the price of generators, go get some soap and shampoo, and wash yourself you damned dirty hippie!

I'd just read or fuck my boyfriend or go to sleep or something. But, different strokes, etc.

Re: Let there be light, beeeyatch!
I live ~30 minutes from civilization (Ann Arbor) and our electric company (DTE) sucks, so generators are a must. No power lines are buried anywhere in this part of the state, so each storm leaves people in the sticks without power for days. My record so far is a week without power. And if you have a well like we do, no power = no water (which means no flushing toilets).
We've got an automatic generator, so I don't even need to leave the couch. It comes on 30 seconds after the power goes out and I can resume my first world life. |

I imagine Kvrdave would rather watch TV than fuck your boyfriend, but I could be wrong.

Re: Let there be light, beeeyatch!
I wish I had backup power last year. In CT, we were without power for a whole week at the end of August. Then just 2 months later, we were once again out of power for a week during Halloween. Absolutely miserable experience.

Re: Let there be light, beeeyatch!
The two 2000 watt Honda Generators were less than $2,000 total, and I use them for a lot of other things. But they tie together for a 4,000 watt system, and that will do most everything in the house. Where did you get $7500?

I'd like to know that too. I have some credit card debt I'd like to pay off. Is there a website I need to go to?

Find the downed lines that are affecting your house. Call the power company, give them the exact location, and tell them, "I don't know if the lines are live or not, and the neighbor's kids keep riding their bikes around there. I hope nobody gets hurt." They'll be there real fast. |

I disappointed in you Dave, you can't mix rum & Coke by candlelight?

I can mix rum & coke with my eyes closed, but I'd imagine the ice would become an issue.

Re: Let there be light, beeeyatch!
Tracer has good taste.
And Mrs. Danger taught me something new. I just futzed around on Amazon. I remember the gennies being cheap (like $1000 or $2000) but then Amazon gave me a much higher price. I blame Jeff Bezos. |
