Re: Favorite Fast Food Eatery?
My fave which is sadly gone was Burger Chef.
Also not around so much is Baja Fresh which is pseudo-fast food. My kids all love Taco Bell. In And Out I have had in Vegas and it was good. But wait-the sub shop DiBella's which is Midwest only is the best!

When I moved to Texas my first meal was Whattaburger. Not bad. Five Guys was really good but I got tired of it and don't get there too often anymore.

Re: Favorite Fast Food Eatery?
Wait-gotta add that I think Qdoba is better than Chipotle. Much more variety, MUCH shorter lines, much less cool.

From what I remember they had a big Mac type burger before McDonalds. Ok how about Ginos. They were my favorite way back when. The new Ginos isn't quite the same it's more like a more expensive Five Guys. |

I guess I'm surprised Taco Bell is doing so well in the poll. But they are pretty much everywhere and I can understand they can be tasty even though I've only eaten there twice in 10 years.

Re: Favorite Fast Food Eatery?
I've never seen Mighty Taco mentioned on the boards. I worked there a number of years ago. Definitely the cleanest of the chains I've worked in and hands down the best fast food in the Buffalo area. Ted's I've mentioned in another thread -- best hot dogs bar none.

I tried Freedbirds based on the recommendations here from another thread since the first one here just opened and I left unimpressed. I don't want to spend 5 minutes ordering my burrito -- I dig the concept, but there's just way too many options. Simplicity is best. I saw frozen White Castle burgers at Walmart yesterday. I had never seen them here before even though I knew they existed. I've never been to an actual White Castle restaurant but I'm sure they don't taste the same.

Re: Favorite Fast Food Eatery?
I've seen those for a number of years. They even put 'em in the sandwich machine at work. Tried them once. They were okay but I've never had a real White Castle so can't compare but I would imagine they wouldn't fare well.

Raising Cane's, with Pollo Tropical a not-that-close second. Unfortunately, the closest Cane's is almost 100 miles away in Columbus, and the closest Pollo is almost 5x that...in Georgia.

Re: Favorite Fast Food Eatery?
I've seen them available in the frozen food aisles around here for years. I've always been tempted to pick some up just try one since there isn't a White Castle anywhere near here. Never have, though.

Speaking of one-trick ponies...
I like this place too, but they do chicken fingers....that's it. I need SOME kind of variety if I am going to be limited to one fast food place.

Re: Favorite Fast Food Eatery?
Except it happens far more frequently at fast food because that is predominantly a teenager job. Teenagers think it is fun to screw with the food and/or they just don't care about doing a good job because they will be gone in three or four months anyway. At better restaurants, it is typically adults who handle the food and while some of them still have that teenage mentality its still not nearly as common as it is with fast food.

Re: Favorite Fast Food Eatery?
I love how McDonald's doesn't have any votes on here yet it's the #1 fast food restaurant.

Re: Favorite Fast Food Eatery?
They weren't bought out. The owners of the chain sold off the restaurants to a potential owner, and Imasco (who owned Hardee's back then) decided they wanted to take the chance. There's a difference. Burger Chef was owned by a company named General Foods who didn't want to be in the fast-food business anymore.
Hardee's brought back the Big Shef for a limited time a few years back but was sued. The suit was dropped but I don't think they've brought it back since.

Re: Favorite Fast Food Eatery?
If I go to McDonald's it's most likely because of convenience and their $1 large sodas. If I was holed up in a world with only one fast food choice, they wouldn't even come close.

I went to City Bites recently after not having gone for a while and they don't even have foot-long subs anymore and they want like $4.49 for a 6". Fuck that. We got one here a few years ago and I thought the sandwiches were good but the sauce they had wasn't all that great. Their sandwiches with Arby's Sauce would probably be a pretty good match.

Re: Favorite Fast Food Eatery?
I think McDonald's is really only popular with kids. The majority of their marketing is geared towards kids. Happy Meals, playgrounds, Ronald McDonald and the other costumed mascots, etc.

I like McDonalds, I enjoy their Chicken Nuggets, a Big Mac, and their breakfast is great. I just prefer some other places ahead of them
