Why are some white people such idiots?

I've been seeing this story posted all over facebook recently... by all white people...

"A 50-something year old white woman arrived at her seat on a crowded flight and immediately didnt want the seat. The seat was next to a black man. Disgusted, the woman immediately demanded a new seat. The woman said "I cannot sit here next to this black man". The flight attendant said "Let me see if I can find another seat". After checking, the flight attendant returned and stated "Ma'am, there are no more seats in economy, but I will check with the captain and see if there's something in first class". About 10 minutes went by and the flight attendant returned and stated "The captain has confirmed that there are no more seats in economy, but there is one in first class. It is our company policy to to never move a person from economy to first class, but being that it would be some sort of scandal to force a person to sit next to an UNPLEASANT person, the captain agreed to make the switch to first class". Before the woman could say anything, the attendant gestured to the black man and said, "Therefore sir, if you would so kindly retrieve your items, we would like to move you to the comfort of first class as the captain doesnt want you to sit next to an unpleasant person". Passangers in the seats nearby began to applause while some gave a standing ovation. "

This is the kind of shit that really makes me question the intelligence of some white people. Basically posting FICTIONAL stories like this is part of what makes white people actually look racist.
Secondly, if the roles were reversed in this idiodic story to make the black guy look like a racist and I posted it, I'm sure I'd be called a racist myself.

There are several versions around, altered to fit the politics of the moment. The version I heard first was about a white woman from South Africa, but I have heard it told with various minorities in the seat, and various backgrounds for the white woman. (always white and a woman, though)

I have seen this story posted 4-5 times so far (all by whites).
I'm glad you can think nothing of it and move on but when I see a white person posting dumb shit that makes other white people look racist it tends to annoy me.

That story is so idiotic, I was astonished when a friend I thought had a lot on the ball posted it, convinced it was a true story and was disappointed when someone snoped it. White guy BTW.

How does this glurge makes white people look bad? Because of the one white racist in it? I assume most of the passengers who applaud (some even standing!) were mostly white?
