Re: Would you prefer your only child to be a boy or to be a girl?

I'm not having any kids, but if I did I'd definitely want a boy. As a man, and knowing how we think, I'd end up beating the hell out all the boys and men that came anywhere near my daughter.

Same here. I really, really wanted a boy but as long as the baby was healthly, a girl was fine.

Thanks for playing logic-free arguments.
Someone's in a bad mood...should I have used the wink emoticon so you could identify that it was a joke?

And yes, the handful of trouble making boys you've heard about classifies the entire generation

I'm not surprised by the results. Just wondered if we would trend on here about the same as the national average..
The Gallop poll actually has a section for women 50+ years old having a child.

Either would be fine however if I could only have one and I had to pick, I would pick a boy. Yes they cause damage that can be measured in dollars like a hurricane but I feel I would have less to worry about as the grow up in this world.

A rich son-in-law is a lot more fun than a hot daughter-in-law.

Truer words were never spoken... Would prefer a girl over a boy, IF I ever have children, and it's going to take a VERY special woman to convince me it is worth it...

Here is that nugget of wisdom that should guide us all.

Our first (and probably only) was a girl, which we both wanted. Never really had a huge desire to raise a son. But if we have another, it might be nice to have one of each.

Re: Would you prefer your only child to be a boy or to be a girl?

I said boy since that is what we have, and he will be our only child. I only wanted a healthy kid before we knew the sex. The only issue I had with a girl was the addage about having a boy you only have to worry about one pecker, with a girl you have to worry about all the peckers in the world; and I recall how horrible and single minded I was in my youth and how much I would have hated me as a dad.

How come you left out the doesn't matter option? That's what I would pick. We have 2 girls and a boy. I really don't get the obsession with having a boy around the world. Except of course for the retrograde lands. Wonder how they'll feel when they have no more women.

Girl. I really don't like little boys at all. They are annoying little bastards.

This is quite true of me and my younger sister. Well, I do care, but don't interact with my parents nearly as much as my sister who lives in the same house as my as them.

Re: Would you prefer your only child to be a boy or to be a girl?

I think once the wife and I have kids hopefully it will be 1 of each. If we only had 1 I would hope for a boy. It seems like their is a lot less hassle with them, not to mention not having to worry about what the whole who's dating my daughter stuff that I'm sure most parents are overly concerned with. I think I'll really hate that stage of life assuming it happens.

Not even close for me. Girl, since they're usually far healthier and far more likely to give you financial and emotional support later on in life.

WTF, I hope this isn't the start of Chinese culture creeping up on us. That'd be a fucking nightmare.

Re: Would you prefer your only child to be a boy or to be a girl?

Before age 21, boys are easier to raise. Less emotional hassle plus they're more likely to help around with raking leaves, mowing the lawn, shovelling snow, etc.

After age 21, girls are better to have around as they're more likely than boys to care for their aging parents, both emotionally and financially.

In the Gallup poll, you can see how the opinions change over time... as people get older, their preference for boys decreases.
