Anyone Used Walgreens for VHS to DVD Conversion?

So I have some tapes I want to convert to digital and was surprised to learn that Walgreens did this, and apparently has for some time. Anyone used them for this service? Any horror stories? They're significantly cheaper than some other places I've looked at in the last week, and that's what worries me.

I've never heard of that. I do my own at home with a Magnavox VHS/DVD recorder I got at Wal-Mart.

Re: Anyone Used Walgreens for VHS to DVD Conversion?

I only have 4 tapes. I thought about buying a unit like you mentioned, but after I burned these 4 tapes it would basically collect dust since I no longer own any VHS movies. And it would cost more than just converting them elsewhere and being done with it.

They use a service called YesDVD or YesVideo, which will make finding reviews easier. They do Betamax.

Re: Anyone Used Walgreens for VHS to DVD Conversion?

It would cost about $30 per tape, moe if you have 6 hours of footage on each tape. It woul be easier and quicker to spend $50 on a combo player and do it yourself. Plus the ones from Walgreens would be copyrighted so you could'nt make extra copies of it if you wanted to. You'd also have an extra dvd player when you're done.

Yeah it would be more cost effective to buy one, but that copy protection thing is a joke. Any DVD can be ripped. Why the hell would they add copy protection to something that isn't even their intellectual property to begin with.

Thanks! Sounds pricey but potentially worth it.

Re: Anyone Used Walgreens for VHS to DVD Conversion?

I used to work in the Walgreens Photo Department and every once in a while someone would come in to transfer VHS or 8mm to DVD.

One guy in particular came in with some old 8mm home movies and had them transferred; when they came back in he made a point to call and let me know how great they turned out. He ended up coming back a few more times to have the process done with different 8mm film. Another lady dropped off a bunch of VHS to have transferred to DVD; she came in a while later and I asked her how the DVDs turned out and she said they were great.

So yeah, based on what I heard from a few customers the process worked pretty well. It is pretty expensive though.

Just send your homemade sex tapes to me and I copy them on to DVD for you. Don't worry I won't watch them or make extra copies.

Only 1 of mine is a sex tape. The other 3 are snuff films.

I will do it for you for free. It will give me a reason to actually use the capture station I built. You can PM me for my mailing address.

You missed out, they offered this service for free 3 or 4 weeks ago, 1 per customer. I was unfortunately away from my collection, had a couple old school videos that could have used digitization.

Yes, it turned out excellent. But I'd use CVS. It's just as good and costs less.

Not sure, but I do know they convert Beta to DVD. DVD's play in Blu ray players. Blu ray players enhance DVDs.

Yes, and then use a Blu ray player to enhance it.

Got a Blu-Ray drive for my computer a few months ago, when I have time I'm going to see how much standard-def stuff I can put on a Blu-Ray disc.

Well, apparently I never checked back into this thread 2 years ago, or I would have taken you up on that offer.
