Does anyone get mail for relatives who have never lived with them?

I moved from Kentucky to California in 2001. My parents have never lived here. About two years ago I suddenly began getting junk mail addressed to my mother. I though it was odd, but I just threw it away.

I moved into a new apartment three months ago. I didn't forward my mail because I wanted to stop getting some of the junk. The only places I gave my new address to were for bills and my lone magazine subscription. Then, about a week ago, I started getting mail addressed to my father. Free bus passes, credit cards, even a local restaurant coupon.

They're definitely my parents names because their first, middle and last names are listed. It's really weird.

Is your last name really unique that there aren't very many in the country?

Re: Does anyone get mail for relatives who have never lived with them?

Not really. It's a common Irish name: Kelly. But that's the thing, I don't get mail for "other" Kelly's. Just my parents. And considering that I don't have anything registered in their names (loans, cars, etc) and haven't since before I moved here, it just seems odd to be getting mail for them when they live on the other side of the country. Especially the ones for my dad when I made it a point not to forward my address.

Big Brother is watching me.

Ha ha, your parents are using your address when getting freebies to avoid getting spam.

I get mail for my late ex mother in law. I'm divorced from her son and she died years ago, but apparently the AARP thinks she lives with me.

When I lived with my parents we used to get mail for a few relatives all the time. We mostly got mail for my grand uncle who my dad took care of before he died of cancer. My mom used to get junk mail addressed to her sisters once in awhile.

I get mail at my mother's current house despite having never lived there- credit card offers and the like. Who knows why.

Re: Does anyone get mail for relatives who have never lived with them?

About every six months I get a letter at my address for my father, who has never lived in this state.

I think something got messed up on one mailing list somewhere and it's been sold off a few times.

The reason seems painfully obvious to me. On something, somewhere, you and your parents/sibling are linked on an account. Account info/lists get shared all the time.

Yes, this happens to me too and I always try to think of how the family member would have ever used my address anywhere for anything (like maybe double dipping on a mail in rebate or something) but I come up with nothing.

A few months ago I got a piece of mail for my father who has been dead for 15 years and lived in a different state. It was a little strange.

I get credit card offers as the "owner" of the company that my wife works for. I have NO idea how that came about.

No, but I do get tons of collections notices and gay porn ads for the guy who lived in my apt before me.

Oh wait... I didn't ask for a reason. Just said it was odd and asked if others experienced the same thing.
I wasn't talking to you, but answering the people who stated they had no clue why it would happen.

Re: Does anyone get mail for relatives who have never lived with them?

My mother died in 2001. In 2009 I moved 100 miles away. In 2010 I started getting junk mail addressed to her.
