New Zealand was the same way. 15 days and nights of eating out and I think I saw a tip line once. Another upside of no tipping was you don't have servers throwing your entree at you when you're not even halfway through your starter so they can turn the table over faster. Many nice relaxed meals.

A good friend went to a local Mexican Restaurant in this area and when his food showed up it had a chewed up piece of blue gum in it. He sent it back, and they still wanted him to pay for it. They called the police and the police told him he had to pay for it or be arrested, even though he refused the food.

Last Sunday at Gallagher's in New York New York casino my friend was chased down by the waiter after we had left the restaurant because he mistakenly gave an 18% tip on top of the automatic gratuity. What an honest waiter.

What state is this in? I've never heard of this before. At my jobs over the years there were days I got cut or only waited on just one table or whatever, and I never got paid any extra to equal minimum wage. What I got was what I got.

i think tipping anything more than 15% is bullshit for places like denny's, tgif, other chain places.

unless you get super service at a nice restaurant... then 17% is at your discretion.

10% is good enough.

I ate at a Planet Hollywood once and got a HUGE caterpillar on my burger. They were nice enough to comp me a free meal and drink. The manager even came out personally and apologized.

good old Bethlehem, i lived, worked and went to school not far from this place but they would have been better going to the WAWA right behind the restaurant and getting a hoagie or even a pizza from the place next door to the pub.

I lived in bethlehem for 8 years or so, and this placed always had a bad reputation for bad food and bad service but i think people go because its pretty much in the middle of Lehigh's campus and is not Wawa or a pizza place or a deli. I'm not sure now but when i lived there 10 years ago there were no "nice" sit down places to eat in south side, now there's a perkins and an indian restaurant right across the street from this very place and I don't know if there have been others open but 10 years ago this was it and now with the Casino not sure if there are other stuff or if this place is getting people from the casino visits but this place was always bad. one time was enough for me.

People are acting as if this is the only place in the world with an automatic gratuity for parties of eight or more.

I guess the difference is that most places wouldn't bother calling the cops if you refused to pay it.

It's not as clear cut an issue as it seenms, since the gratuity was a part of the bill per restaurant policy which was apparently printed on the menu, but it was incredibly short-sighted for the restaurant to have them arrested for it.

I'm pretty sure that's anywhere. I believe they only have to make up the shortfall if you're under minimum wage for your entire pay period, so they don't have to make up the difference if you don't make the equivalent on a single day.

I remember one time at a show that served food, at the end, the wiater told people not to worry about tipping - it was already included with their ticket prices. That was a nice surprise.

How is 18% theft? A typical tip is 20%. They are giving you a break.

this about lehigh I agree with. or Porches. plenty of those in that campus. non of those lehigh kids do anything for bethlehem but basically no south side bethlehem without lehigh so they are stuck with each other and i bet you that if lehigh could fly away their campus from south side bethlehem they would.
