Honestly, I fear a moment like that more than my own death. Thanks for sharing the story and a great overall reply. Too bad it's going to fall on a lot of deaf ears that have already made up their minds.

Re: Police officer murdered; am I out of line?
Quote:
Called in at noon...told why I was called in. Everyone was at the scene except me...I was at the office as I had just come in after 4 hours sleep. Sheriff called me and told me that the 3 kids of the fallen officer (my co-worker) had been inadvertantly pulled OFF the school bus as people at the school had found out. They had wanted them to stay on the bus not knowing what had happened where they would get off the bus and the Sheriff, their mother and friends/family would tell them. The Sheriff told me to give them a ride to their house (about 10 miles) so that they could tell them what had happened. I told the Sheriff...no way in hell....why? Because I wouldn't be able to keep it in line (without crying) the whole trip. He agreed. I pulled the 3 kids and the principle and a counselor at the school into a room and I told them. Very rough but it worked. We pulled together and I drove them out to the house (stopping 2x on the way to cry as a group. It was a very rough day. People can say what they want about cops dying...its not cops per-se...its about people close to you..doing the same job as you. Their may be a good vs. bad mentality among some...but its a given that if one of the good guys dies...that its going to hurt. With the deaths in Ft. Hood this week I will ask...how did every other soldier feel? Just an observation.

I'm not sure I'd be able to tell any children that their parents had died.

Re: Police officer murdered; am I out of line?
Glad they caught the guy who "alledgedly" did this. Couldn't believe this when I first heard.
