House was broken into today

While I was at work. They took everything from my room - TV, PS3, 360, plus games and DVD's, and tossed my closet for who knows what. Looks like they were working on the downstairs when they got spooked and left, because the downstairs 360 was pulled out and they broke my airport express by pulling it out of the wall.

Fucking savages. The cops are on their way, but I'm sure there's not much that will be done.

Now I know that 'violated' feeling that people talk about after break-ins. I don't even want to go into my room.

Re: House was broken into today

Fuckers broke into my house a few years ago. Actually broke the door leading into the garage in half in order to get in.

It's a shitty feeling, no doubt.

Fuck that really sucks. Sorry that had to happen to you Tarantino. I should probably get some security in my home since I dont live in the safest neighborhood.

Re: House was broken into today

damn, that sucks.

hope you have insurance right? make sure to document everything with the cops.

btw, cops won't do much other than take a report, but it'll be very useful for insurance purposes.

i'd suggest you do not repurchase anything except the bare necessities at this time, cuz they might make a revisit.

First off, I am very sorry for your losses and inconvenience. I have been a burglary victim twice and empathize.

You are correct. They will do very little and accomplish almost nothing. I forgot what the average number of burglaries a criminal commits before being caught but it is something like 40.

If you didn't support the legalization of illegal drugs before you might want to now. Residential smash and grabs are usually done to feed a drug habit.

Re: House was broken into today

It does indeed suck. I started a thread a couple of years back when it happened to me twice. I still suspect it was just bored neighborhood kids, based on what was taken...iPods, digital cameras, a select few DVDs out of over 700 (Terminator 2 and UHF among them). They didn't bother with computers, A/V components, or video game systems (probably because I only own the "worthless" Gamecube and Dreamcast). We later had some copper stolen out of our rental house next door. At that point, we installed alarm systems in both houses, and haven't had a problem since.

I personally got over the whole "violated" thing pretty quickly, as did my wife. It probably helped that I was the one who came home to find the "damage" both times (although they didn't trash anything) instead of her, and was able to defuse the shock, anger, etc. as much as possible. The cops who showed up each time were friendly and sympathetic, and (probably falsely) reassured me by saying that they would talk to some of the known local troublemakers. I kept an eye on the local pawn shops and Craigslist for a bit, but never recovered any of my stuff.

Hopefully, you have receipts or some proof of purchase for all of the stolen items to provide to your insurance company. I feel that State Farm did pretty well by us; the reimbursement checks came close to covering the stolen items, since our deductible in each case was approximately the value they assigned to the window and door that were broken to gain entry. I was able to replace each of those myself without too much cost or effort.

Sorry to hear it, man, but you'll get through it.

Because it will be so much cheaper when government approved and taxed?

This is one of those cases where it pays to work at Best Buy. Everything that was stolen was bought from there, and they track every employee purchase, so I can go pull the receipts tomorrow.

This blows. I don't even want to go in my room right now. They went through all of my shit...my drawers, my clothes, looked under my bed, etc.

Re: House was broken into today

my parents' house was broken into back in the early 90s. Let's see the facts:

1. House broken into, only took stuff from parents' room - mostly fake jewelry. That was odd. Didn't go anywhere else in the house.

2. House broken into - a few days before an alarm company was scheduled to do an install. Interesting.

3. Suspect's blood on the window screen as he tore it away from the window. Now that DNA testing is used, it would definitely make it easier to solve the case. But back in the early 90s, nobody even considered it.

my parents house was broken into back int he early 90s (while I was in highschool)..
mostly only crap from my room was taken (games, cds, etc..)

I told the cops who I thought it could have been (thug in my neighborhood that hung out with me from time to time).. and the cop actually said it wouldnt surprise him (funny that he knew the guy by name).

3 days later, the cops showed up with all my stuff..

(which was a bit of a shame, because i had gotten hundreds of cds through BMG and was looking forward to the flat rate the insurance company was going to pay for them.. of course, i didnt have my parents deductible in mind )

Re: House was broken into today

My mom's next door neighbor got robbed last week, she has been living there for over 40 years and never experienced anything like this; people must be getting desperate. Time to get my shotgun shells loaded with glass and fishhooks ready.

Re: House was broken into today

did you take pics of the serial #'s? that way, you can file it in the police report as stolen items with serial, if they show up, you may be able to find it (hard, but hey, if you have a stupid theif)

Would be possible to trace the PS3 and Xbox 360 if they were to use it online?
