Re: Help the Michael Jackson butter statue become a reality.

DES MOINES, Iowa – People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals have come up with an idea for sculptor Sarah Pratt and the Iowa State Fair — instead of using butter for a Michael Jackson sculpture, how about a nondairy spread?

Officials with the fair, known for its butter cow, announced days after Jackson's death that they also would display a sculpture of the King of Pop. Last Wednesday, they said they would let the public decide in an online ballot.

Iowa State Fair marketing director Lori Chappell said as of Tuesday more than 70,000 people have voted on the Web site. Chappell said early on, most people voted `no.' Since then, there has been a surge of `yes' votes.

Meanwhile, PETA recommends using something called "Earth Balance," which it describes as a "nondairy buttery spread" if there is a Jackson sculpture.

They should use half and half.....as it'd be symbolic of the amount of plastic surgery he had.

Re: Help the Michael Jackson butter statue become a reality.

I have a friend just outside of Des Moines I visited last summer.

If they do the MJ butter statue I might just have to go visit again just to get a picture next to it.

*and I just voted for it.

Son of a bitch....

DES MOINES, Iowa -- Iowa State Fair officials said voting has squished plans for a butter sculpture of Michael Jackson at this year's fair. More than 65 percent of voters said "no" to the sculpture and 34 percent said "yes." Officials said more than 100,000 votes were cast in the unscientific poll.

"While we know some people will be disappointed, we believe the vote was the only way to let fairgoers voice their opinion in a meaningful way," says Gary Slater, Fair CEO/Manager. "With the Fair just over three weeks away, we are pleased to now move on with final preparations for all the events at the Fair." This year's display will feature the annual butter cow and a new sculpture celebrating the 40th anniversary of landing on the moon

Landing on the moon. Pssh. It was Michael Jackson!

I didn't realize MJ was up against a butter moon landing. I'd rather see the moon landing.

I didn't know it was a contest between the two. I thought it was just a small side project next to the moon one. Where does it say that?

I'll be there on the 22nd and will take a picture for you (unless someone posts it here first).

Re: Help the Michael Jackson butter statue become a reality.

A butter moon landing sculpture makes no sense. The moon landing sculpture should be made of cheese.

Re: Help the Michael Jackson butter statue become a reality.

I was under the impression Michael would be on the statue along with the lunar landing, not that it was a contest.

I don't think it was a competition, and it actually made some sense to put the 2 together. It's a shame we' never see it!
