Help With Chinese Symbols Needed

I'm looking to get three Chinese Symbol tattoos, one for Faith, Family and Friends.

When I was looking up the symbols, so many multiple ones came up. When I did a search for Family, two symbols came up. Do both of them mean family or is there just one? Its confusing cause when I did a search there seems to always be two symbols for each one.

Re: Help With Chinese Symbols Needed

you mean character...

imho, i would not get something i do not understand tattoo'd on my body.

my assumption is traditional and simplified versions of the character.

If you are using online translation, prepare to look like a fool with a shitty tattoo. Pay a professional translation company to do it. give them the context so they can pick the appropriate set of characters.
ask for a PDF with it written in three or four font styles.
This is a service my company does occasionally, but it is pricey.

Or, find a good artist, who can take your theme, and make it into something original so your tattoo does not make you look like annoying_fratboy_004

. I looked that up and it's "white fool" (or something like that). You'd better trust who you get your characters from, because I have to admit it would be tempting . . .

Why not just get the words "Faith, Family and Friends" tattooed on your skin? That way everyone will know what's important to you without having to ask.

Yeah get it in English. Unless you're moving to China.

That was the first thought that came to me.
Why the Chinese characters anyway.

Re: Help With Chinese Symbols Needed

Just my opinion but... Chinese symbols are soooo '90s. Stars and/or writing on the sides (running down the side) are the current fad.

That being said, here are the Chinese symbols for Faith, Family, and Friends. Ignore the English below it.

Re: Help With Chinese Symbols Needed

So, three words that all start with "F".
F is the 6th letter of the alphabet.
Why not just get "666"?

Here is something you need to understand about Chinese language. Yes, each character do represent something, but it can be interpreted in many different ways. When that character is written along with one character, it can mean one thing. When that same character is written along with another, the meaning changes into something else. That's why it's often written along with another character to actually mean something specific. It's also why when you use the translator for one word in English, it almost always return with two characters. See the example above? the word idiot is represented by two characters that have little to do with stupid. Now if you're still head strong of getting Chinese tattoo, they are as followed:

Faith - 信義
Family - 家庭
Friend - 朋友

Good luck, although for once I agreed with the otters, DON'T DO IT.

I can't wait until those go out of style and look even dumber than they do now.

Re: Help With Chinese Symbols Needed

I know whenever I see someone with Chinese calligraphy tattoos I think: "WOW they are SO deep. What a complicated person that must be, I just HAVE to ask them what their Chinese tattoos MEAN!"

Re: Help With Chinese Symbols Needed

A friend of mine had his name tattooed on his arm in Chinese characters. He loved it until a Chinese girl who was our server at a restaurant one day started laughing and told him it said Made in America. He was mad about it for a while, but realized it could have been much worse.
