Re: Michael Jackson to hospital in cardiac arrest (Dead)

Sad, but not even close to the way I felt when Elliott Smith died.

Re: Michael Jackson to hospital in cardiac arrest (Dead)

On iTunes, five of the top ten albums are now MJ albums, with more climbing. On Amazon it's even more wacky. The top music of all genres, the top 13 are MJ albums, with even more right up there in the top also.

The tragedy of Michael Jackson's death at age 50, reportedly from cardiac arrest, pales in comparison to the tragedy of his life. To understand all that Jackson had and lost requires wiping away three decades of plastic surgeries that deformed him, erratic behavior that made his name synonymous with the warping powers of fame, and a 2005 trial for sexually abusing a child that, even though he was spared of any finding of wrongdoing, made him a pariah to all but the most brainwashed of fans.

What is up with the bargain-like (DEAD) updates on the MJ and Farrah threads? Not in the best taste IMHO. LOL

If you are looking for the best taste, try a fancy restaurant.

Re: Michael Jackson to hospital in cardiac arrest (Dead)

So Michael Jackson dies of heart attack and David Carradine dies of autoerotic asphyxiation.

A month ago, I would've figured it would be the other way around...

The "UPDATE: DEAD!" thing is tradition, man. Ever since Anna Nichole Smith died a few years back, anyone who posts a thread about an ill celebrity who later dies HAS to update the subject line to "DEAD!" or else face the wrath of Otter.

Re: Michael Jackson to hospital in cardiac arrest (Dead)

I like when the thread falls way down into the depths of the board, then a year or two down the line news comes out having to do about it and it's changed to "Update: STILL DEAD".

is it in poor taste of abc that they are playing part of the documentary that that Martin guy did years ago when he mentioned sleeping in the bed with kids.

I think he openly admitted to sleeping in bed with kids. Just not anything sexual.

No, if he admitted to that he would have been sleeping with grown men in prison.

I guess you missed the interview-- he said that's what he did. And there's nothing illegal about it (not that I don't think it's strange, but literally "sleeping with" someone won't get you sent to prison).

Why did he sleep with young boys and name his kid Prince Michael? The guy was a weirdo.

Because he was a Jehovah's Witness at the time.

Re: Michael Jackson to hospital in cardiac arrest (Dead)

I think history will remember him as one of the greatest entertainers that ever lived. All the other stuff is a lot of speculation that no one can really substantiate. This always happens when a well-loved celebrity dies; as many of the greats had their vices. Like comedians John Belushi and Chris Farley, or musician Kurt Cobain; all of which had problems with drugs but no one today sees them like that, just great men that were great at what they did. I was never really a big fan of Michael's, but I still consider him a great musical artist.

Re: Michael Jackson to hospital in cardiac arrest (Dead)

People remember Belushi, Farley, and Cobain for their drug use and it gets mentioned within 2 minutes of most conversations about them. Plus drug use isn't the same as drugging and molesting small boys.

Re: Michael Jackson to hospital in cardiac arrest (Dead)

I'm pretty much torn about his death because he was my top icon during my adolescent years, when his music was absolutely at its best. Then he took a dive for the worst, and I don't think anybody knows why. I'll still remember him as I did in my teens, and while I shake my head at his actions and behaviors over the last decade, overall, he's still one of those few who influenced me musically and will never be topped by creativity, performance, and choreographed dances.

It's a real shame he died with such a stigma (a worthy and fitting stigma, unfortunately) going along with him.

+1
thriller is one of my favorite songs, way back in the day I could do the dance. It's sad what fame from a young age has done to him. The Gosselins should take note.
