nosey neighbor--whats the best way to deal?

Nosey neighbor is pretty astute and likes to play detective about anything and everything that isnt his business. His unit faces the parking lot and for some reason he is curious about when/where I go. I'll see him peek out his window or he'll 'run into me' as Im walking back from my car into the building. Part of me is glad someone is watching the parking lot, but still.

Ive tried 'messing with him' by spurring on his curiosity with eccentric behavior but honestly now Im sick of him trying to figure out everything he can.

I dont want to make mortal enemies with the guy--and we arent friends. When he asks pointed questions about things that arent his business, whats the best tactful way to say 'mind your own business'?

You can say mind your own business. That's probably the easiest way.

Best way is to say: "Ah, it's nothing...." or "It's really nothing...." and downplay those issues that he's so concerned about.

"Look, man. I don't know you and I don't really want to. I see you out your window and you ask questions of me when they aren't your business. It's no offense, but I keep to myself and would like others to respect that as well."

Every time he asks you a personal question, respond with "why do you ask?" If he persists, just say "I don't mean to be rude, but I prefer to keep my business to myself."

Or you could kill him.

Thank you. I will take this as professional advice.

Next time.. haul out a huge, rolled up rug and throw it in your trunk.. make sure the night before you invite a girl over and have her screaming really loud. Keep him guessing.

Once when I was home from work during the week 2 days in a row he commented 'did you get fired?' I said 'no, there was an outbreak... OSHA sent us home'. I know it doesnt make sense but it just makes him more interested.

Maybe every time he starts to ask you a question, you should interrupt him with a bizarre series of questions of your own, like:

"Do you have a meat cleaver?" (if yes) "Is the receipt lying around anywhere? Could it be traced back to you?"

The next time he asks you, say something like this:
"Do you know what happened to the last guy who asked me that question? No? Neither does anyone else." Remain unemotional and walk away.

Maybe I should allocate a portion of my ISP costs to him as well. Hmmm...

After reading the Romantic Dinner thread, I feel like we could get an Alpaca and maybe a Tibetan Throat Singer involved in this before the thread is over.

Are you married? Tell him crazy shit like you're just going out to see your mistress, or even better, play a Rear Window trick on him, and make it look like you murdered someone.

That'll really get him interested!
