Octuplets Mom's Son Rushed to Hospital

Octuplets mother Nadya Suleman's two-year-old son Caleb was rushed to a hospital late Friday after accidentally drinking a chemical solution from his older brother's home volcano kit. The youngster vomited after swallowing the liquid; his mother decided to call paramedics just to play it safe.

"I knew it would all get blown out of proportion if I called, but I didn't want to take any chances," Suleman tells PEOPLE. "I think I did the right thing. He's okay."

Suleman – who created headlines around the world when she gave birth to eight children last Jan. 26 – dialed 911 just after 5 p.m. Friday afternoon, resulting in an estimated 40 emergency medical personnel reportedly showing up at the family's La Habra, Calif., home. The scene quickly grew so chaotic that a fireman was observed asking Suleman to pose for a souvenir cellphone snapshot.

The mother and her son were rushed to St. Jude Medical Center in nearby Fullerton, Calif., where doctors ran tests on the youngster to determine exactly what was in the solution he drank. It turned out to contain mostly salt water, according to a family friend. Two and a half hours later Suleman and Caleb were back at home with the 13 other members of their family.

oh yeah, and it's so hard to drive her son to the nearest hospital. i think we should get a proposition wherein, if you call 911 more than 3 times a year for situations where you could bring in the patient to the hospital yourself, then you should front the bill for any charge over 3 times, including police, fire, traffic cops, hospital, etc.

LOS ANGELES - Octuplet mother Nadya Suleman has signed agreements for each of her 14 children to earn $250 a day to star in a reality television show.

The contracts filed Friday in Los Angeles Superior Court guarantee the children will collectively earn about $250,000 over three years. The contracts require a judge's approval.

European production company Eyeworks has inked the deal with Suleman. Eyeworks lists "Breaking Bonaduce" and "The Biggest Loser" among its television credits.

The show is slated to begin filming Sept. 1, according to the documents.

The payments outlined in the contracts say Suleman's kids will collectively earn $125,000 for 36 days of shooting in the first year of production, $75,000 for 21 days in the second year and $50,000 for 14 days in the third year. Any extra shooting days will be compensated at the same rate.

The contract also states that 15 percent of the gross compensation will be deposited by Eyeworks into a "Coogan Trust Account," as required by California law. The monies can't be touched until the children turn 18 or become legally emancipated.

A call to Suleman's lawyer Jeff Czech was not immediately returned Friday afternoon. He has said previously that the family has hired an entertainment lawyer and established a trust for her children, ages eight and under.

Suleman and a Website that shot video of her children have faced allegations of labor abuses in recent months.

State regulators brought four citations against Web site RadarOnline for their video taping of the first two octuplets to go home from the hospital. The state Labor Commissioner said the Web site failed to get required state permits, videotaped the infants at hours and for periods that were illegal and failed to provide a child monitor during the tapings.

A hearing is scheduled on Monday in Orange County Superior Court, in the lawsuit brought by attorney Gloria Allred. Allred asked for a labor investigation and the establishment of a trust for the children on behalf of former child entertainer Paul Petersen, president of a group dedicated to the protection of child performers.

Suleman gave birth to the world's longest-surviving set of octuplets on Jan. 26. The medical curiosity of their delivery turned to public outrage when it was learned that the single, unemployed mother had been caring for her six other children with the help of food stamps and Social Security disability payments for three of the youngsters. Suleman said previously that some of the disability money was spent on in vitro fertilizations, which was used for all 14 of her children.

shouldn't more than 15% go to the kids? or i'm assuming 15% is the absolute minimum?

Fox to air 'Octomom' special

The Octomom is finally ready for prime time.

Nadya Suleman, the single mother of 14 children, will be featured in a Fox special "Octomom: The Incredible Unseen Footage" that producers say will offer a "jaw-dropping" look into her chaotic life.

The special, which will air Aug. 19, was compiled from footage shot by RadarOnline.com, which has had full access to Suleman since last March, when she brought the first two of her octuplets home to her La Habra residence.

"The access they got is amazing," said Mike Darnell, Fox's head of alternative programming. "They basically lived with her for seven months." He said that when he saw a few minutes of raw footage, he instantly ordered the two-hour special.

Said Darnell, "It really shows the surrealness of what she's experiencing, right from the point of bringing the first two babies home to a 1,400-square-foot home. We're inside the car with her. It shows what her relationship is like with her parents, where there's an enormous amount of conflict. It's truly surreal. We see eight screaming children on a bed while six others are running around."

Executive producer Craig Piligian of Pilgrim Films & Television, which produced the project, said the special was more like a "documentary. There's no host, no narration. It's really from Nadya's point of view. It's her inner monologue. It's not like a reality show, it's a lot more inside her head."

Both executives said they anticipated that the special would be controversial and draw criticism from many who have blasted Suleman, accusing her for being ill-equipped for motherhood and obsessed with publicity.

"There will be public debate before, during and after the special," said Darnell. "But that's the history of Fox. Once in a while, we embrace edgy material, and Nadya is certainly compelling."

The agreement between Suleman and the filmmakers stipulates that she has no input or control over the footage. Said Darnell: "We can say she signed away the rights to whatever was shot."

Suleman could not be reached for comment.

Darnell added that "though we are not legally obligated," Fox and Pilgrim established a financial account for Suleman's kids "in the six figures."

Suleman is scheduled to participate in a BBC-produced reality show that will start filming next month.

Really? Are their ratings actually that good? I've never seen the show and the many people I hang around with have never seen it either. I must be hanging out with the wrong morons. I only know about Kate and Jon because the local news seems to think it's newsworthy to do a story on them every once in a while.
