Re: Dieting - Is this normal?

Even better is the fact that since people make seemingly better choices (fat free mayo, wheat bread, etc) it gives them the idea that now I can eat as much as I want. I call it the Snackwells Cookie syndrome. Thats why low-carb, low-fat, etc type diets fail people. There is no diet, lifestyle change, whatever you want to call it where you can eat as much as you want as often as you want.

Re: Dieting - Is this normal?

Our lunch is generally a 1/2 sandwich:

1 slice Mortons (I think) whole grain bread - 110 calories
Light Mayo - 25 calories
1/2 slice of cheese - 30 calories
2 oz.(about 5 slices) of lunch meat - turkey for me, roast beef for my wife - 60 calories
Brown spicy mustard - 5 calories
Total Calories: 230
Then I usually have a juice (100 calories or less) and maybe some chips (again, 100 calories or less) - or a veggie or fruit depending on what is in the kitchen when I pack up.

Edit to add: I almost forgot the most important part - that lunch is VERY filling.

I can't tell if I've lost any weight, but my wife says my belly is smaller. She has lost 1.5 lbs in the last week - so that's good (we don't have a scale at home, but she has one at work so she can check).

Re: Dieting - Is this normal?

I think I'm going to switch my hi-intensity running to low intensity walking... it's worked well for me the past several yrs for dropping the fat. If I can get back to doing it first thing in the morning that'd be best... also I will probably extend my cutting time thru February...than start the bulking in March.

This was true for me as well. I tried, low carb, high protein etc, etc....I lost then gained, then nothing. But by simply cutting calories helped. But then I realized by cutting bad things that had lots of calories, but added nothing to being full, things got better. For example you can cut mayo on a turkey sandwich and double the turkey and still be way, way ahead of the game calorie wise and be a lot fuller.

Sometimes I have a turkey sandwich for lunch and then a chicken sandwich for a snack mid day. Less calories then a single sandwich with mayo and cheese.

And people think "that didn't fill me up, no way I can eat only 2,000 calories in a day".

But what they don't realize is remove 1 piece of cheese and mayo/sauce and put is on wheat or half the bread and you likely just cut the calories in half. Meaning you could get double the meat and which would fill you up and you would be way ahead of the game calorie wise.

In my example before that a Chargrilled chick fil a sandwich has 280 calories. That means most men could eat 7 of them a day and still lose weight. Not that you would want to. But it would be filling no doubt and around 2,000 calories.
yeah, i didn't buy it, but a co-worker gave it to me since she said she didn't want it. i'm never one to turn down free food. i agree with your point though, usually i'll try to eat more lean meat and veggies and less rice.

Yeah, for Teriyaki Mondays (we order out at work) instead of getting the chicken and rice, I got two chicken breasts...and it was $1 less. I will miss the Chipotle burritos though...

Broke down and had a beer tonight.... what the heck, in celebration of Lost...yeah, that's it!

Chipotle Salads are not bad at all. I like the chicken w/black beens, veggies, corn and salsa or hot sauce depending on my mood (skip the dressing, sour cream and cheese). It is reasonable. And if your co-workers all want to go to Chipotle then at least you can find something.

Re: Dieting - Is this normal?

You can eat pretty healthy at Chipotle (ignoring the sodium of course) if you know what to pick. This will help:

Re: Dieting - Is this normal?

Looks like I've dropped three lbs in two wks... encouraging esp since I haven't been keeping up with my running or diet as much as I'm planning to in the wks ahead.

Btw, any suggestions for how to stave off hunger when watching a movie in the eve?.... drink lots of water and you'll be making trips to the bathroom all night, or like I did have coffee and you'll still be up all night.... yawn.

Nothing wrong with eating a light snack in the evening. I like carrot sticks with hummus or plain yogurt to which I add blueberries or strawberries.
