So, wanted to share my weight loss story

Well, i know there are the "Biggest Loser" threads out there, but personally, i never really got into those things. I figure, just pick a healthy routine and stick to it, and whatever i end at is ok. I wasn't looking to lose a huge amount of weight in a short time, since the people that i know who do that usually gain it back. So, to start off back about 10 years ago, i was at 160lbs when i started college. Then there was the freshman 15 , sophmore 5 , and junior 10 . I think when i graduated college, i was about 190lbs. I slowly gained weight over the years after that, and i'm pretty sure i was over 200lbs by Summer 07.

Back in the summer 07, i noticed that the 36" pants were getting tight, and i had to buy some 38" pants. I don't really keep track of my weight, so i don't know what i tipped the scales at at that time.

In Sept. 07, i started a new position in which i got off of work at 2:30 PM. That gave me more free time in the afternoons so I decided to work out a little to burn off some excess weight by running on the treadmill 3-5 times a week, that was otherwise collecting dust. I also decided to cut down my huge breakfast to a more moderate one, and eat less rice at dinnertime (1 bowl instead of 2). By Christmas 07, I can feel that my pants are fitting me better. I finally weighed myself, and i was at 195lbs (I'm about 5'10"). Well, in Jan 08, i started a new position, and now had to work until 3:30 PM +/-, but i continued exercising and eating less. In May I started a new position but with the same hours, and weighed myself again at 175 lbs. Well, in June, due to rising gas prices, I decided to use mass transit, which is substantially cheaper. This also helped out because i had to walk about half a mile each way (15-20 minutes). Starting this month, i started another position, but now i have to work until 4:00 PM (no -) , so time is a little tighter. Now, i eat a snack (usually a ) before i leave work, but i still have enough time to get in a 40 minute treadmill workout about 3-5 times a week. Over Labor day, i picked up some pants that were size 32. I weighed myself just last weekend and i'm at 160lbs. Back to where i was when i started college.

Congrats D.Pham. I'm in a similar situation. I was 180 and 6 foot tall when I went into the navy at 17. When I got out, I was probably 225 and still looking good. It only got worse from there. I wouldn't even look at a scale let alone stand on it. After huffing and puffing up the stairs one time too many, I decided to finally have a look at the scale. It was over 300. I was pushing the outside edge of 42s and couldn't live with myself if I had to shop at the husky store. This was december of last year. After joining 24hr fitness and watching what I ate, I dropped to 40s almost immediately, 38s were 2 months after that, now I'm in 36s and have dropped 80 pounds. I still have about 25 to go but I'm looking much better and feeling great. Still going to the treadmill 4 days a week, very careful with the diet. It is definitely a combination of both, just diet or just exercise doesn't work for me.

Congrats again, only someone that has been through it knows how hard it is.

D.Pham- you could easily drop another 20 just by eliminating emoticons from your diet.

Congrats on the weight loss. I'm working on reducing my tonnage as well. I was a solid 140 after college and now, 20+ years later I'm packing another hundred on my 5'3" gelatinous frame. YIKES! I only hope I'm as successful. Keep it up and keep it off!

DH and I decided to start exercising in March. We actually have a park right down the street from our house that has a 1/2 mile walking trail. We started out going out there about 5 times a week and walking 5 laps (2.5 miles). After about a month of that DH had lost about 10 lbs, but I never lost anything. By May we were walking 10 laps (5 miles) 6 days a week and then we got the Wii Fit...so I started doing 30 minutes on it everyday also. Not long after that both of us started to drop a lot of weight.

Now, we are running 2.5 miles and walking 2.5 miles 6 days a week and I also do 30-90 minutes on the Wii Fit (I sure love doing hula hoop) 5 days a week.

DH has lost 45 lbs (and gone from a tight 36" to a loose 32). I've lost 23 lbs (2 more lbs to be officially out of the overweight category) and I've got 19 to go to be my 'ideal weight' (according to the Wii at least).

You know, 6 months ago I don't think I realized I had 45 lbs to lose. I thought maybe 10-15 and my husband really can't believe that he's lost as much weight as he has. He was even considered obese before, but you never would have thought that. I guess our (Americans in general) perception of size is just so off.

Congrats!

I am down 12 pounds after starting to curb my eating (I went vegetarian, not fully but I am almost there) and working out after my knees were deemed clear, after staring in July. My starting weight was 225 (I am six feet tall), my goal is 185. I got a long way to go, but I am off to a good start. Looking to get some weight lifting in (my shoulder was also deemed clear, finally!) and some more running. Best of luck keeping it off!

So many fat loss success stories. We need to find a country that takes pride when its people are fat and unhealthy.

I've lost 42 pounds since May by doing the following:

-cutting out real sodas
-having a job where I work outside in the Florida heat as opposed to sitting in an office
-exercise at the gym
-no fast food
