Our DVD player is broken... fire the nanny?
Alright otters, put aside that knee-jerk reaction and help me think through this. My son's nanny was watching him this morning and I went to the home office to work for one hour. I came back and found her, as usual, parked on the sofa doing a crossword puzzle. I found my son toddling around. I found the entertainment stand glass door open (and I KNOW I shut it this morning, for a fact). Our 5 disc DVD player was open with two DVDs flung on the floor, one of which was the rental we need to return, another DVD was covered in food where she didn't clean his face and hands after feeding him cereal (Bladerunner, my husband's gonna die!), the fourth one came out fine--I was barely able to reach it, but it is nice and unscratched so that's cool. The fifth DVD is still stuck in there. I can't get it out. The carousel won't turn to get it out.
The nanny says oh well it's time to put a lock on that entertainment stand, like it's MY fault! There are other issues with her. Last week my husband had to take the toilet completely apart and pull something out of the bottom of it that she dropped down there. So what say you?

Fire her? Only if by that you mean "put her in front of a firing squad".

she's 65 - so you get what you pay for.
I wouldn't expect her running after your kids at that age - I would count my blessings that she gets up from that couch alive every day  |

With my nanny, I told her that she can clean all the apartment but stay away from my entertainment center - don't dust it, don't wipe it, don't touch it. That's my baby and I clean it. Plus you wouldn't want someone else cleaning a tv most likely with windex or water...
Just tell your nanny not to allow your child to play with that area.
