Any good recommedations for a sore throat?
Sore throats always seem to be the one thing that can't be eased with OTC drugs. Been drinking tea and water constantly. Run the humidifier every night. Tried throat spray, throat lozenges, cough medicine, etc. and nothing seems to work to ease the pain. This is probably the worst one I've had in a while and wondered if the Otters had any suggestions.
Any suggestion is appreciated, OTC that worked for you, home remedies, etc. ETA: yeah probably going to get a strep test this afternoon, no other symptoms just the throat. But if it's viral don't think they can do antibiotics and just have to wait it out.

most common causes of sore throat are either 1. post nasal drip from poorly controlled seasonal allergies, so try claritin or zyrtec with ocean mist/saline nasal sprays 2-3 times a day to dry that shit up =OR= from 2. subtle acid reflux... maybe not enough to feel traditional midepigastric "burning", but subtle caustic vapors can travel up and irritate your throat, therefore try some prilosec otc or zantac.

Slippery Elm....it is sold in health food stores...and REALLY works!
you can get it as a cough drop, or get it in it's "raw" form and put it in tea. |

Scotch works great!
I prefer a single malt ..... specifically Glenrothes but there are plenty of others that should help.

Thanks for all the suggestions, tried a few, but didn't work to good as it turned out to be much worse.
I knew you were all waiting in anticipation to see what happened, so thought I would give you some closure. Left work early Wed. afternoon, then woke up Thurs. morning and my throat was so swollen, I was literally choking on my uvula (that punching bag in the back of your throat), which swelled to about 8 times normal size, where I could feel in on the bottom of my throat. Went to urgentcare and they said it was tonsilitis. Prescribed antibiotics and said to take ibuprofen, asked if there was anything they could do now since I could barely talk and was literally choking on my own throat and they said they don't usually remove tonsils unless it's chronic and wont remove them if they are infected anyway. So, spent the next 36 hrs just trying to breath and not choke on my uvula, very weird feeling, btw. Physically cringed when I had to swallow and got by on soup and water for those days and even hard to get the noodles down. Finally, on the third day antibiotics started to kick in, but those first few days were worst pain/illness of my life. Only back to about 70% now and missed 3 days of work. I rarely get sick so this one was terrible. So, there you have it, figured I would give you all some closure, now if I could only get some closure on the online dating advice thread...
