Going to South Lake Tahoe for five days, where should we stay?

We're taking a group of folks to South Lake Tahoe in a few days. We'll be there until Monday. Is there much to do there during the summer? Obviously it will be beautiful but I'm not able to bring much more than a suitcase and a laptop. How's the nightlife? We'll have a car so we don't have to stay there. We were talking about going to Reno for a day or two.

Thoughts?

North shore or South shore?

Good golf around there. Take a trip around the lake. It will take a few hours.

There are casinos in south shore, so there is simply no reason to go to Reno. Seriously. No reason.

Lake trip, gondola to the top of Heavenly, drive around the lake, jet ski rentals, parasailing, gambling, drive over to Monitor pass through Hope valley...

Get married... oh wait. :P

South Shore is great in the summer. I did that myself last year.

You might check out the Embassy Suites. Inexpensive, right across from the state line, very convenient. The casinos are right across the street.
