So there's no change, except that before it used to get moved to another subforum and now it's absolutely not allowed.

Once again, there's really no change with respect to what's allowed in Other. People are trying to post things in Other that don't belong here and haven't belonged here, at least as long as I've been posting here. Then they act like there's some change to the policy of what is allowed here, when there isn't a change.

I think people are upset they can't post these things, but then see porn like pictures at the top of the screen. I know it bothers me and haven't really posted here because of it.

btw, I think most of us mods see this as a loosening of the current rules, not a tightening.

Many things (R rated pics) are still not allowed, but other things that would have gone to the Adult forum are allowed now - like the oldest virgin thread.

The party 7 was on there earlier. I haven't seen 6th day add on my screen at all.

Are photos showing absolutely no nudity allowed?

You can't expect people to fully realize right away that you took the Zodiac Rapist cover out of rotation. That was pretty prominent up there this past week.

Let's say I used to have a washer and dryer combo, and got used to being able to wash and dry my clothes in the same spot. One day, it was stolen, and my insurance company only gave me enough money to get a washer. Now I have to walk 20 blocks through a sketchy neighborhood with wet clothes to the laundromat to dry them.

This isn't a change?

If we're just talking about how the washer functions, then yes there is no change. I guess the analogy would be if you occasionally tried to dry your clothes in the washer. Your roommate used to move them over to the dryer for you where they belonged, only now they just dump them on the floor because you don't have a dryer anymore.

I see the point in that there's now nowhere to move the iffy topics to anymore.

Or maybe he washes his clothes, but then wants to wack off on them but doesn't know where to do it, so he goes to the dryer, where he used to wack off but now the dryer is in someone else's house and...wait, what was the question?

I appreciate the efforts to clarify the rules. I also appreciate the hard work the mods have been doing.

But you do see why people are confused: Geoff posts a celebrity bikini photo and it gets deleted, Mrs Danger posts a suggestive drawing of feet and she get reprimanded, but (after some discussion) the Hulk member is allowed. The Hulkster, no matter how funny, is not safe for Amazon.

Linking with a potentially NSFW notation as the rules state makes all the difference.

And it wasn't a photo that got Geoff's post deleted.

Links to porn on different sites, links to stuff on dvdtalk. No difference.

All the porn content is still here, for all intents and purposes. The fact that is it technically on a different site means nothing. The way to access it is exactly the same as it was before the switch.

I'm not a prude that wants to suppress free speech, but I'm just saying that it is silly and disingenuous to say that dvdtalk is more family-friendly since the porn was moved. It wasn't moved, it is still here.

After the Adult Forum closed, people started posting more of that material here, even though the old standard was still in place. So in order to alleviate the confusion the mods/admins got together w/ the owners and codified the rules (again not adding anything new, just formalizing what we had already been doing) by which we're going to operate. Since then if you look at these threads the majority of the reaction has been negative, sometimes very negative, even though nothing really has changed. Sure there's still going to be some questions and minor issues we need to work through (like making sure the reviews get flagged properly) but I don't think I'm the only mod who was taken aback by the reaction.

The bottom line is these are the rules we're going to enforce. At this point IB doesn't seem to want an "R" level forum/content here. So while the "dirty joke" and "who do you consider hot that other people don't" type threads are allowed (as long as the individual posts stay within the guidelines), the BigJim's babe threads and other more explicit material that used to be found in the Adult Form aren't. If that starts to drive people away it's up to IB to decide what they want to do about it.

EDIT: I mean when you post threads like this This thread is safe for work what else are we supposed to think. Talk about being condescending
Was it condescending? Perhaps, but only after mods have verbally dressed down posters for the past four days on these forums. Plus, it was funny, as evident by the many responses.

And quite frankly, where is IB to hear our concerns? If they are not here, is it not the responsibility of the mods to bring said concerns to IB, given that they have an open line of communication with them?

The rules haven't really changed. Threads like the Slayer threads would be allowed, but just like those threads, details aren't allowed. When Slayer started delving into particular techniques or whatever, it was cut out. His constant begging for sex was allowed
Just to make it clear, those 'details' were never edited out of Slayer's threads prior to the XC spinoff. Afterwards, they were. So how is it that "the rules haven't really changed", considering that's blatant evidence that they have?

This is condescending just by nature. I think the issues with "the pictures at the top of the screen" have been thoroughly documented.

I believe what they are referring to is that the rules, as written, have not really changed. There was a bit of additional latitude given some material when there were porn review covers plastered in the adult forum AND on the main review page but the rules themselves were pretty much the same (the recent clarification provided dealt primarily with the level of enforcement).
