Correct. No need for an uproar everyone. "Fired" wasn't the right word. "Purged" is more appropriate. I was old school.

Taking LotsofDVDs off the reviewer list was my doing. After Xcritic split, there were a lot of writers who migrated over there and no longer active on this site still listed as reviewers. It was getting unwieldy so I decided to purge everyone who was no longer an active DVDTalk reviewer.

There were several people, not just Lots. Sorry for any confusion.

That's Sorority Babes In the Slimeball Bowl-a-Rama, noob.

Starring Linnea Quigley, BTW.

The covers that people are complaining the most about are reviews, not ads.

The ads are the portions under the headlines and the "sponsored links" section within each thread. It my understanding that those are controlled by another group and we don't have much direct control over them. If there is something in there that people feel is inappropriate though please let us know and we'll see what can be done about it. The two things that most people seem to be concerned about recently (within the context of this discussion) are the reviews (there are at the top and to either side of the headlines). Clicking on those just takes you to another part of the website and doesn't make any money (that I'm aware of) for anyone. Now if you follow through on the review page I believe there might be something there that'll generate some cash for people (other than the etailer obviously ). We have more direct control over what comes up in the normal cycle of things wrt the reviews, so if there's a problem there please let us know and it can be handled directly.

When did this sight become so self-absorbed that it can't make fun of itself?

Would a Jules post or a stripper farted in my face post be allowed now? - it's certainly not family friendly - but fuck - that's what this place is - A FAMILY.

Where's the friendly?

Mad props to the admin/mod/reviewer powers that be - I know it's a trying time - but let's not lose focus (see bold) - and if the focus has changed that much, let us know so we can go.....

Yes! A family! Complete with that weird gay Uncle who only comes around at Christmas time (you know who you are), the hot cousin we all wanna boink, the other hot cousin we did boink, the cool aunt that buys you beer, the fun grandpa that gives you his old porn mags, the grandma that pinches your cheeks then gives you a weird menthol candy....we are family and we should remember that.

And no more than one toilet thread on one page. Looking at my poop before I flush, and reading about a plumber bashing a toilet to pieces...is too much for me. Now I'm paranoid to take crap.

That changes a bunch of things then....since the big 'hold up' was that the forum couldn't moderate what was displayed, but if they are reviews, then someone would have to look at the cover and it could be flagged if it had two people having sex on it or something.

And that is being implemented as we speak. Notice the Zodiac Rapist disappeared from rotation?

Although with the feedback we've been getting it's a bit difficult for reviewers to decide what's appropriate when DVDs dealing with gay subject matter and covers like this

are being complained about.

I don't get that complaint (for spider lilies at least), since you could put grace kelly and cary grant in that pose and no one would really bat an eye.

Neither do I.

But it seems some people were just looking for something to complain about.

And I suppose it's just coincidence that those reviews are showing up in the rotation over movies that people have actually heard of? And that they're all borderline (or over the line) explicit?

Yep, just a coincidence. No attempt at making money, no hypocrisy here.

And you wonder why people are so pissed off over the whole thing.

Yeah, that's it. We're all just looking for reasons to bitch.

Honestly, there is nobody that can convince me that you actually listen to or give a damn about what anyone in this forum thinks. You've proven time and time again that you could care less. The other mods aren't so bad...but the way you talk down to people with elitist overtones and dismiss legitimate complaints is just sad.

Look at it from our POV... Threads were getting closed/posts were getting edited because the mods were trying to enforce the standard that has always been in place in the Other Forum since the Adult Forum was split off. After the Adult Forum closed, people started posting more of that material here, even though the old standard was still in place. So in order to alleviate the confusion the mods/admins got together w/ the owners and codified the rules (again not adding anything new, just formalizing what we had already been doing) by which we're going to operate. Since then if you look at these threads the majority of the reaction has been negative, sometimes very negative, even though nothing really has changed. Sure there's still going to be some questions and minor issues we need to work through (like making sure the reviews get flagged properly) but I don't think I'm the only mod who was taken aback by the reaction.

The bottom line is these are the rules we're going to enforce. At this point IB doesn't seem to want an "R" level forum/content here. So while the "dirty joke" and "who do you consider hot that other people don't" type threads are allowed (as long as the individual posts stay within the guidelines), the BigJim's babe threads and other more explicit material that used to be found in the Adult Form aren't. If that starts to drive people away it's up to IB to decide what they want to do about it.

EDIT: I mean when you post threads like this This thread is safe for work what else are we supposed to think. Talk about being condescending

IMHO the focus of the Other Forum hasn't changed. The focus of DVDtalk in general has changed a little in the sense the Adult Forum (and the type of material found therein) is no longer a part of this site. Whether or not people feel that's enough of a change to make this place not worth visiting is up to them.

If that's how you feel about it then I guess so. Frankly I thought Other (and DVDtalk in general) had more to offer than what was in the Adult Forum, but listening to some of these responses I guess I was wrong

No, it hasn't reached that point for me personally. Just restating what you said in an unpolitically correct way. I concur with j123, this is a private board and has always been. We can have fun but do so recognizing that fact.

I'd argue against the bolded part. I think nothing has changed. The adult content is still here. A link to adult reviews is still top center of every single pageload here. The adult forum is still linked in the forum list. Who cares if the content is now on different servers? It is still here. No review or forum post or any page on the entire site is truly "safe for work" as long as they advertise "adult dvd reviews" top center of every page.

Those are just links, before some of the actual content was here. Are you suggesting that those are equivalent and that we remove those things
