Shorts at the office. Yay or nay?
I'm working at this office type of place for the summer doing some administrative stuff and it's really hot in there. Would it be appropriate to wear nice shorts (not too short) in an office setting? Perhaps with a nice shirt//polo?
The place is pretty casual already since nobody is wearing fancy suits or anything (I've seen lots of people wearing jeans). Last edited by Howiefan; 04-21-08 at 05:16 PM. |

Unless you work at a start up computer company, I doubt it. Way too casual. Ask your supervisor.

Is it UPS or a mini-golf course? Then, no, don't wear shorts.
(Don't wear short-sleeve shirts with ties either). |

Years ago my office used to wear shorts until one day a VIP came to visit and said he felt like he was at a beach party. The dress code soon changed after that.

Instead of Casual Fridays, I'd prefer Nude Fridays.

I prefer to watch full length features at the office myself, but whatever floats your boat.

Shorts in an office setting? No chance.
This isn't Australia. ![]()

1. Do you live in S. FL?
2. Do you work at a start-up company? 3. Do you own the company? If you don't have one or more of the following, I'd probably say no. |

I say no. If it is anything like my office it is business casual with the focus on casual. Shorts are only allowed on Friday which is casual day. At the same time all the women, 90% of the office, wear the knee length shorts which seem to be the current fashion trend including the manager who has stressed that shorts aren't allowed.

Man I rock the shorts in the summertime at the office for sure. Our office environment is SOOOOO casual, shorts, flip flops, I even go sleeveless when the guns are all tanned. I rarely shave, my hair is messy. Chicks rock the mini skirts, capris and tank tops, its hawt. (well on the hot chicks its hot)
And this is a Bio-Tech company we are talking about here.......

I teach my summer courses in shorts and a square-bottomed button-up that doesn't need to be tucked in.
Too hot and humid in the Midwest to get dressed up, and the AC is often unreliable. Academia, of course, is rather casual. Still, if you're not seeing customers you need to impress, what's the harm? |

I have a similar style as Ron G....(when I'm not seeing patients), as it is too hot and humid in FL to not wear shorts or super light weight pants from June-Sept.

Just wait and see if anyone else does it.
I wear shorts, but then again working at a video game company helps. Heh. |

All the women in my office are wearing those terrible looking capri pants, which for most of them just end up looking like long shorts. They look like they are going out to work in the yard, and for some reason it's ok.
