Is there a nice way to ask if someone is pregnant?

I've got a co-worker that sometimes brings his girlfriend to some company gatherings. His girlfriend has been getting quite a bit larger in the belly area, but I'm not sure if it's due to his seed or hamburgers. At the last event, she was kind of just sitting around and holding her belly like I've seen only pregnant women do in the past. She was also talking maternity clothing with another pregnant woman.

I'm like 80-90% sure she is with child, but I'd like to know for sure. Is there any nice way to ask someone if they're pregnant, or should I just wait for them to announce it? I know she doesn't like me, so I don't really care if I offend her. However, I do work with her boyfriend on an almost nightly basis, so I'd rather not end up pissing him off too much, in order to keep his productivity (however low it may be) at maximum.

Just be blunt and ask why she is so fat?

Unfortunately, there is no nice way to ask. Women will find an issue with your question regardless of how it's presented...

Dude, never ask a woman if she's knocked up unless you actually see the baby coming out of her body. Ask someone else, someone close to her that way you won't get your balls busted just in case she's not pregnant.

Ask her if it's okay to kick her in the stomach. If she says no, she's pregnant.

I'm having the same issue here at work there is a girl who is getting bigger in the belly area but I'm not sure if she is preggers or not. I was wondering how tactfully I could ask but then quickly gave up as it is likely to offend no matter what the answer!

Make some small comment about pregnancy or babies in general. With any pregnant woman I've ever seen, this is enough to get them talking for hours.

This is indeed a delicate situation and it is hard to ask the question without seeming rude or intrusive. Instead, just ask her for a urine sample and find out for yourself.

Wait and see if she goes on maternity leave. If she does, when she comes back say, "OMG, you're even thinner now. Were you really pregnant?"

Ask what her views on abortion are, that should do it

Again, why do you care? That is not something I would ever ask anyone except my wife.

You mean they don't talk for hours anyway?

Take Dave Barry's advice, as Kittydreamer also said:

You should never say anything to a woman that even remotely suggests that you think she's pregnant unless you can see an actual baby emerging from her at that moment.

scott, just because we shouldn't do something doesn't mean we don't

we're men
just as a penis is required, pissing off the lesser sex is a requirement as well

I never really understood why this was such a delicate question. You would think that most women woud be very excited about the fact, and want to tell everyone around.

What's the harm in going up to her and simply asking, "Who da baby daddy"?

I'm married. She's not my type. She *just* turned 18, which makes it even more hilarious.

Just start a conversation with her. At some point, act offended an say "Wow, is it that time of the month?" and you should get your answer.

The harm comes if the woman is, in fact, not pregnant. Then the question just turns into you saying she looks fat.
