Those scabs are due to them scratching and picking at their skin - I guess you kind of become OCD when you are on the stuff so you keep picking at a scab and digging at it.

Sort of. What happens most of the time is the toxins from the drug seep out through the skin. Usually that translates into these brilliant folks scratching themselves to the point of sores.

Nope, those are just shots of the volunteers. They had people intentionally use meth for a period of time just to have the before and after shots.
