28-year-old man charged with cruelty to animals!

Alrighty, that doesn't sound like much of a story, but read on:

28-year-old man charged with cruelty to animals
By Will Greenlee (Contact)
Monday, February 25, 2008

STUART — Police arrested a 28-year-old man Sunday on a cruelty to animals charge after he yelled an obscenity at a police dog in a patrol vehicle, according to an arrest affidavit.

Moses Rogers Jr., of the 700 block of East Avenue, also faces a disorderly conduct charge in connection with the 2:24 a.m. incidents in the 2300 block of Southeast Federal Highway.

Police say Rogers yelled an obscene statement in the window as he walked past a patrol vehicle that contained a patrol dog “causing (the dog’s) behavior to become overloaded, tormenting the dog,” the affidavit states.

Rogers became irate when an officer went to talk to him and ask for identification and continued drawing bystanders’ attention.

Rogers was released Sunday from the Martin County jail in lieu of $750 bail, a jail official said.
It's said that the dog will have to be put down as a result of the trauma from the comment.

Do dogs know swear words? Is the man's age of any significance? How the heck could this lead to putting the dog down? Was the patrol car's window down at the time?

So many questions.

Where in the article does it say the dog was put down? I think that was a "joke" from the OP.

Come on people, I'm mocking the story by adding that last part.

This sounds vaguely familiar. Didn't this same thing happen a year or two ago?

This may sound obvious, but if you are going to be cruel to animals, go for the gusto. None of this wussy "taunting" stuff.

I remember something like this too - and the case was dropped.

This whole crap that an animal is a police officer is idiotic! An animal is a tool to aid the officer, just like the radio, police cruiser etc.

They need to start taking the price of the legal processing out of the paychecks of the people that bring forth these ridiculous charges.
This was a funny story until I realized that private citizens are paying for the circus.

Further proof that when cops really want to fuck with you, they can arrest you for just about anything.

That's a bit much. The guy didn't bite the dog.

Dog's are always barking obscenities at me. That and telling me what to light on fire.

Why do you need ID to be on a public street?

The cop probably had a Napoleon complex or something. I actually had a cop threaten to arrest me for "Impeding the flow of a public sidewalk" when I was waiting outside a bar for a friend to come out. He shut the fuck up real quick when I asked him which statute that was.
