Wow, sounds like a lot of people don't park their cars in the garage at home?

I've had my wipers stick to my windshield several times just this winter.

Ok, your location is North Dakota and that is a far cry from Northern Virginia where it has not gotten colder than 10 degrees or so all year.

Do you get ice on the wipers when they are up in the air?

I wouldn't know... based on the fact my wipers have been frozen to my windshield several times this winter it's safe to say I never actually think to put them up.

Re: Why do people put their windshield wipers up before a snow/ice storm?

People see other people leaving them up and think that they are doing the right thing... I can tell You that they are idiots... Leaving your wipers up are dangerous and costly! I left them up on my car, the wind flipped my wiper over and then it crashed down cracking my windshield($320), and if you're lucky enough not to let that happen, If you leave them out(up) long enough, it stretches out the spring that holds your wiper onto your wind shield($56) Lets see... $15 to replace a wiper, or $112(2) to $320 potential damage. I leave mine down, start the car, let it warm up, and then the wipers are fine!

Welcome to DVD Talk...

I'm curious on how you decided to make your first post a three year bump about windshield wipers on a dvd discussion website.

Two bumps as a first post to revive this topic after years of sleep.

So should I start putting my wipers up or not? Someone needs to do deeper experimentation with this!

Re: Why do people put their windshield wipers up before a snow/ice storm?

The Subaru I just got has warmers under the wiper blades, negating the need to leave the blades up. Not that I ever did it before...

When I see this I put the wipers down for them. I know they appreciate it.

1) Turn car on

2) Wait 10mins

I guess people don't have enough time.

So no consensus as to what position to put the wipers.

And is this thread a record for most first posts?

Re: Why do people put their windshield wipers up before a snow/ice storm?

I leave the wipers down but I usually have a spray bottle with windshield washer fluid with de-icer in my car during the winter. I spray the wipers to get the ice off. Works perfect.

What is it about windshield wipers that has caused this thread to be bumped 3 times over the last several years by new members who have then never posted again?
