Do you mind unexpected visits to your home by friends/family or do you hate it ?

I hate it ! i want people to ring before they come over.

Nobody bothers to drop by unannounced here but I do it (sort of) all the time. I usually try to give my family a courtesy call (friends always get one) but if I'm out in their area, I figure why not. If I don't get an answer or they can't, I don't take it the wrong way.

In this day of cell phones there's no excuse for not calling first. My husband's half brother will just stop by whenever he wants, no phone call, nothing and just expects us to drop everything and entertain him. It's very annoying.

But i do remember the good ol' days when your an 8 year old kid stopping by your friends house, ringing the door bell and asking the mom can Jimmy come out and play?

I dont think kids play outside anymore. Atleast from what I see.

I remember fondly spending most summers down at a little creek with the other kids catching FROGS, toads, turtles, snakes and tadpoles. Then taking a bucket of them home to Mom and having her yell at you to take them back. Those were the days!!!

Kids invite other kids over to play video games.....damn, that must suck. We use to play in the neighborhood all day, and then MAYBE some video games, but usually after riding bikes, tag, etc.

Man, I remember playing neigborhood baseball, tag, and night time hide and seek with flashlights. Man those were the days. I actually had some friends that not only would stop by without calling but actually just come over each friend's house without knocking, calling or ringing the bell and just walk in. Of course these friends and parents are close in itself that it was ok to do so.

My house was one of the gathering places, kids would just come in and out. As long a you stayed in the neighborhood (or the next one over), you just had to be back to your house by a certain time. Damn...those were the days.

I had one friend, who is a little screwy to begin with, drop by on occasion without notice. But he drives all the way from New Jersey! The first time he did it was 11 years ago, when I just moved. I was out for a couple hours, so I wasn't aware of it until he called me that night. He said he tried reaching me, but after awhile, he gave up, had lunch, and drove back home. 8 hours wasted for his efforts.
