"Hi. Louie the Lightning Bug, here.

"Now, Lightning Bugs are experts, see,
On safety and electricity.
And one thing's for sure, and I oughta know,
You never fly your kites where power lines go!"

"You never fly your kites where power lines go!"

"Now, if you're looking for a tree to climb...
You never climb trees near power lines!"

"You never climb trees near power lines...you never climb trees near power lines!"

"Play it smart, little buddy! You've gotta play it safe around the power lines, you gotta play it safe around the power lines!"

Saw those all the time here. I thought he was a local mascot for the power company. They have a suit for parades and such.

I guess it is a national thing.

I think this whole kids climbing tree's thing is a myth. I've never seen a kid climb a three. Ever.

Today's kids are too scared to climb trees, or they would rather climb a tree in a video game because it's easier

I remember him!

Too bad he didn't also warn kids about playing on the roof near power lines.

First trees? Kids playing on roofs? Now I've heard everything.

We had a clip of "Mike - the tree climbing expert" who warned us to "never climb trees near overhead lines because they were dangerous - they may even kill you".....

The problem is that most trees around here suck. Tropical trees are much easier and more fun to climb.

For example, a mango tree is much easier and more fun to climb than birch.

I climbed a lot of trees as a kid. Maples are the best to climb, or oaks, but I understand why they wouldn't climb much in the south...it's all a bunch of pine, which is impossible to scramble onto.

Deciduous like a mother!

I found out Louie's not only national, but international. Go figure.
