even if they disapprove the merger they can still do things like a common receiver, etc to act as one company

Just to clarify, what happened was that the FCC started a 180 day period in which they have to (are supposed to) decide whether or not a merger is in the public interest.

This doesn't mean that the merger will happen, it doesn't mean that it won't happen. It just means that a decision will be made within 180 days.

i think the idea is more along the lines of offering a la carte plans..
where you can either get a standard lineup.. or a sports lineup.. music lineup.. etc..
some dupes would go away.. but i doubt alot of unique channels would get axed

From what it looks like, it would be at least a while before everything is consolidated into 1 service. From what I saw, there would be a tiered service and part of each service is a best of package from the other service. Ive had both, and kept XM, so Im glad that at least initially, Id get to keep the XM stations I like, but Im sure in the long run, most everything is going to mirror Sirius' stations, and I'm 99.9% sure 1 year after the merger is final, we'll have commercials on the music stations. Otherwise, there will never be enough revenue to keep it going.

Would my XM in my car be able to pick up the sats for Sirius? XM has poor coverage here, and goes out enough that I would never sign up with them, but Sirius was excellent.
