I think im coming down with a stomach flu--How to keep it from ruining my vacation?

Im feeling queasy, my coworker is feeling queasy and his dad is home with a bad stomach flu (probably the source).

Im flying out of town on friday.

How can i shorten the severity of this potential flu? Its been years since ive had a stomach flu--how long do they last?

Eat lightly for a couple of days to give your digestive system a rest. Lay off of dairy products and fats. Load up on veggies and fruits and fluids.

Try to get as much rest as you can. If you're going to get the flu, you're going to get it; but if you're prepared you might have a milder case.

Technically, there is no such thing as "stomach flu." The correct term is gastroenteritis. Influenza affects the respiratory system, not the digestive system.

The symptoms of gastroenteritis include nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. The infection can last up to 10 days but usually is only 1-3 days in duration.

Gastroenteritis is caused by a virus, so don't go storming your doctor's office for antibiotics. Get plenty of rest and fluids and give your tummy a break by cutting down on fats and dairy products. If you like, use the "BRAT" diet -- bananas, applesauce, rice, and dry toast -- until you feel better.

Until you get the runs or start puking, I wouldn't worry too much.

Here's a WebMD link: http://www.webmd.com/content/article/5/1680_51287.htm

It's only supposed to last 1 or 2 days. Hope you feel better soon.

Sit down with your stomach bug and have a one-on-one heart-to-heart talk. Tell it about your concerns that its behavior over the next several hours/days is going to affect you in bad ways and that it should find another host better suited towards its own goals to co-exist with.

Sometimes communication is key.

Stay hydrated and get as much rest as you can before you travel. Take a sick day or two. Set aside ample time to play video games, and keep a bucket near the couch to maximize your game time.
