‘Whale Rider’ star expecting a baby with her 19-year-old boyfriend

NEW YORK - Keisha Castle-Hughes is growing up fast.

The 16-year-old actress, who was nominated for a best-actress Oscar for her role in 2002’s “Whale Rider,” is expecting a baby in the spring, the agency that represents her confirmed Friday.

The father is her boyfriend of three years, Bradley Hull, 19.

Castle-Hughes, who was born in Australia, played the Queen of Naboo in last year’s “Star Wars: Episode III — Revenge of the Sith.” She will be seen next as Mary in “The Nativity Story,” set for release Dec. 1.

As for the unmarried non-virgin thing, I wonder will this affect The Nativity Story's sales. I expect some silly fundamentally-challenged group to protest, but not enough to hurt whatever potential box office it has. It might actually prompt more interest with the publicity.

Also - the age of consent in Australia and New Zealand, where Hughes was born and is a citizen of, respectively, is 16.

Not too weird. Two or three year difference isn't that bad; seniors date sophomores all the time. Also, there's the distinction with child actors. Many of them are very mature for their age, given their quick entry into the workplace and responsibility, so it stands to reason they might have an attraction to older partners; also, they are watched by their parents like hawks. I'm sure the parents have known about their relationship and approved.

Now, whether or not dad likes becoming granddad, that's a different story...

I think the comment was about being 16 and in a relationship that has lasted 3 years already, not the 3 year difference in their ages.
