Yay ban more books! Up next: Fahrenheit 451!!
a little ironic, no?
" A Caney Creek High School dad is fired up because the Conroe Independent School District uses the book "Fahrenheit 451" as classroom reading material. Alton Verm, of Conroe, objects to the language and content in the book. His 15-year-old daughter Diana, a CCHS sophomore, came to him Sept. 21 with her reservations about reading the book because of its language. "The book had a bunch of very bad language in it," Diana Verm said. "It shouldn't be in there because it's offending people. ... If they can't find a book that uses clean words, they shouldn't have a book at all." Alton Verm filed a "Request for Reconsideration of Instructional Materials" Thursday with the district regarding "Fahrenheit 451," written by Ray Bradbury and published in 1953. He wants the district to remove the book from the curriculum." story here

Holy Crap!! That is seriously ironic.
This guy's obviously an asshole, his daughter is 15 surely she's at least heard and most likely used more offensive language than is printed in F451.

It's obvious she learned nothing from the book. Next up: Huck Finn, Catcher in the Rye, Great Gatsby, All Quiet on the Western Front... |

Strangest thing, I was thinking about books the other day, and about banning books, and about banning F451 (I must have been straightening my bookshelves or something), and I actually thought, "anyone who would ban F451 needs an immediate bullet in the head, as they are a threat to human civilization."
I don't know why that thought came to me the other day, but when I saw this thread I got a bit of chill.

Now if I wake up tomorrow and find that '1984' will not be getting a double-dip, then I know that things are really bad.

Kudos to the guy for being somewhat responsible about what his daughter is involved in, but sheesh, pick your battles better.

Stories like this surface every so often .... just as a reminder that ignorance will never be totally eliminated.
