GREENFIELD, Ind. (AP) - The Amazing Kreskin, who bills himself as "the world's foremost mentalist," wants to help Indiana police officers improve their crime-solving skills. Kreskin will reveal some of his techniques to law enforcement officers during a free seminar Friday at Greenfield's newly renovated Village Theatre.

The event isn't open to the general public, but about 75 police officers and sheriff's deputies from around central Indiana have signed up to attend, said John Kleiman, a Greenfield resident who's been a friend of the entertainer for 13 years.

Kreskin's appearance is part of a series called Intuitive Cops Observational Preparedness Seminars, or ICOPS, in which he reveals some of the techniques behind his intuitive abilities. In Friday's seminar, Kreskin will focus on interrogating suspects and analyzing crime scenes — two practices he said are greatly improved by fine-tuned powers of perception.

"People do talk when they're not speaking; they talk by the way they behave," said Kreskin, who said it's often easy to tell when someone is lying.

He said he also plans to help officers look at crime scenes "in a different way." Kreskin describes his claim to fame as the uncanny ability to sense other's thoughts. Although not everyone is completely convinced of Kreskin's mind-reading talents, many local law-enforcement agencies are sending representatives.

Greenfield Police Chief Clarke Mercer will attend the workshop with several investigators. "The thought of police work as intuitive, I agree with that 100 percent," Mercer said. "I hope that all of us come out of there hearing a professional talk about the art of being intuitive."

After the ICOPS program, Kreskin is scheduled to be the first celebrity to put on a public performance at the Village Theater since its renovation. Kreskin said the evening performance will be much more entertainment-based.
