Mel Gibson and his DUI.......
I heard about this earlier in passing, but I wasn't privy to these details.
His reputation as a nutjob alcoholic is well documented. I wonder how much of this is true.... http://www.tmz.com/ Last edited by JumpCutz; 07-29-06 at 01:20 AM. |

Isn't TMZ that site that just creates their own celebrity news if they can't find any?

i NEED to see that footage. I simply must.
Funny how his career is coming full circle. He's now become Riggs in the first Lethal Weapon. |

![]() As far as the obscene and antisemitic tirade, we'll just have to wait and see if the allegations hold up. If they do, his reputation should be mud (much more for the latter than the former). If this is all true, including the police at first refusing to release the report or even the mugshot, perhaps the "conspiracy" was going the other way, an attempt to protect him.

Too bad if true... it damages his religous testimony and work for sure. Not exactly the kind of promotion Disney wanted for Apocalypto.. if I were them I'd order Mel not to give any interviews and let them do the marketing themeselves.

I'm sorry, but there has to be a better source than TMZ. TMZ has no credibility. Funny how few other news sources seem to be reporting this. Not to mention the comment about the Jews seems to out of place in that tirade, and completely made up.

He should have learned from Jesus. I'm sure Jesus was smart enough to know he should employ a driver.

Mel Gibson's statement:
http://www.mercurynews.com/mld/mercu...a/15153946.htm Quote:
I'm starting to believe the reports. He's clearly trying to blame his drunken state and his "disease," an alcoholism "relapse." Well Mel, a person who isn't a bigot could get as drunk as a skunk and would never spew the vile filth you have been reported to have said. If you indeed said those things there is no excuse and no one should ever give you any respect ever again. And your protestations of not being anti-semitic are totally blown, whether or not your film was actually anti-semitic (I didn't think it was although I thought it stunk).

![]() Stan or Kyle: "Holy Shit! Mel Gibson's f***ing crazy!" Interesting how Cartman's idolizing of Mel Gibson for being supposedly anti-Semitic now seems pretty accurate. Last edited by TheMadMonk; 07-29-06 at 05:39 PM. |

At least he said he was sorry and didn't blame anyone else except for himself.
Though I think society demands more than that. I'd say fine the hell out of him esp since he's a famous person or send him to jail and let him really think about what he did. |

I do not defend Gibson at all....
however, I'm amused that an apology no longer works at all anymore.

In this case, the apology seems to confirm the worst reports. All that stuff I read that he said goes in the "things I'd rather not have ever not known about, but do" file.

True. But that's the point of an apology - I agree I blew it and I am sorry.
But it seems like (from this thread), that denial and 'no way that happened' is indeed the better way to go, EVEN IF the worst is the truth. An apology now only makes people madder, because the apology affirms that the 'bad thing did happen'. In the past, an apology meant that the person was sorry for what happened and would try to do better - and the response TENDED to be - ok, we'll see if we can forgive you, rather than ---- damn - it's true? You're TOAST, man.

It was good that he apologized but the guy was drunk and speeding.
As I said before, society demands more than an apology esp. since over 10,000 were killed last year due to alcohol-releated car accidents. |
