A fascinating look at a place most never see: North Korea

My friend forwarded me this link.

http://www.militaryphotos.net/forums...ad.php?t=82755

Really makes you appreciate the things we take for granted.

Cool pics, though they aren't half as frightening as the English in the captions.

Actually, North Korea just looks boring, rather than oppressive.

Wow, the barb wire fence at the beach and the pins they wear make me sad.

Those pics are depressing.

What's even worse is that the people there are so brainwashed, they probably believe they lead happy and fulfilling lives.

Good grief, can we overthrow their government next please?

The pillars they use to block roadways in times of war were interesting. Everything else is kind of depressing.

Too bad he didn't get pictures of the concentration camps which are filled with people who step out of line. Keep in mind that the pics were taken while on a guided tour. He just saw what they wanted him to see.

It doesn't show the mass starvation, gulags, counterfeiting and heroin factories, insane militarism or the complete depravity of Kim Jong-il. NK is hell on earth.

A year or so ago I read a very long account of an American teacher working in S. Korea who took one of the guided trips to N. Korea via China. It was very eye opening. I wish I could remember the link.

It reminds me alot of the way East Germany used to be before the wall came down. I still don't know, you can find some pretty terrible looking places right here in America. And moreso now than in the past as the nice places are being "gated off" so that regular people can't see in.

And a place with no cars or constant advertising (ala billboards and other useless crap), I wish they would impose more restrictions like that here. There should be some kind of balance.

Otherwise, I think the weather there has alot to do with some of the perception of the pictures. It seems to be continuously gray and foggy/misty. Take pictures like that in some places here in the US and you could make it look just as bad. There are plenty of places with homeless just lying on the streets, kids roaming the streets obviously with no purpose in life no hopes for decent jobs, trash everywhere, buildings falling apart because no money to maintain them, bad roads, etc. You don't need to go to NK to see some of that stuff. It's all right here in the US as well except our propaganda is more subtle. We don't all wear our pins and look at the great leader, but it's still there.

Well, 90% of those pictures were taken in Pyongyang...and only party loyalists with decent jobs and no physical imperfections are allowed to enter the city...take an unguided tour of the country...thats where you would be knocked on your ass.
