What ever happened to the Frugal Gourmet and other cooks from the 80's?

Another thread had a picture of the Frugal Gourmet, so I thought I would ask if anyone knew what happened to him. I know there are rumors he abused children, which I don't believe. He was too jolly a guy.

And while were talking about cooks from the 80's, what happened with the cook from Louisiana? I think his name was Justin Childs or something like that. His famous line was "I guarantee it", and he liked to tell funny stories.

I wonder if either of them will be out on DVD anytime soon.

my dad and i used to love watching Justin Wilson's show. He felt they were kindred spirits - both loved the spicy/hot stuff.

The main show I recall watching as a kid was Yan Can Cook.

The guy was fantastic even if I could barely understand him at the time.

I believe he was blackmailed, and that he did nothing wrong. I did an internet search, and he was never charged with a crime or convicted. I think the poor guy was told "pay us or we'll smear your good name". He shouldn't have paid.

If his show is released on DVD, I would buy it.

Yeah Jeff never recovered from the allegations. It ruined his rep.

Justin is dead.

I think my local PBS affiliate had this show on approximately 63 hours a day sometimes.

I saw Jeff Smith in the fish market on my one visit to Seattle in 1997. He was beeping at people to get out of the way of his roscoe.

What ever happened to Graham Kerr, the Galloping Gourmet from the 60s? My mom and I used to watch his show and it was great to see him stumbling around, pissed on the cooking sherry.

I occasionally shoot trap with a guy who is a spitting image of Jeff Smith. It's scary.

I used to watch Pasquale several years ago. Is he still on the air?

He's still around with a cooking show and new books, but now he's on the wagon as a recovering alcoholic and only uses non-alcoholic ingredients in his cooking.

Martin Yan has a chain of asian fast food restaurants called Yan Can. There's one not too far from me and it serves some decent food.

I loved watching Jeff Smith and was very angry when his career was ruined by the allegations, which were eventually proved baseless.

The only cooking show I watch now is the Ron Popeil informercial for the rotisserie oven. I alway find myself unable to turn away.

At 3am in the morning when these are on, I pretend I'm a little Rotisserie Chicken and roll around on the floor like I was in a Ronco oven.

I thought the Frugal Gourmet was just what I needed. A guy that could teach me to cook something besides spaghetti and do it cheaply. Then I found out frugal didn't mean inexpensive.

Not to de-rail this thread but I've been wanting to post a thread about "Favorite Cooking Shows" for some time. I used to watch all the shows the OP mentioned and I really do miss Justin Wilson.

Anyway, here are my current faves:

Chefs a Field
Mexico, one plate at a time
How to cook everything
Daisy Cooks
Lidia's Family Table

Yep, good ol' Ju-Stah Wihl-son, real cajun cuisine, my relatives down there used to watch him religiously. Good stuff.

I remember watching The Frugal Gourmet a lot as a kid. Now you can't beat Good Eats, Iron Chef (America and Original), Molto Mario, and a lot of the other food network shows. Rachel Rae and Giadia DeLaurentis =
