Scam E-mail

First of all I already know that if I have to ask then I should know it's a scam, but I'm curious about this one, and figured I would let you guys have at it because it's remarkably devoid of spelling errors. Should I call? I would never give any credit card information, or acount information of the sort, but if it's legit what kind of questions would they ask me?

Here you go:
Miguel,

Please call us at 1-866-677-4100. We previously tried to contact you at ---------(removed by me, they did have my correct home number), but were unable to reach you. This is reference to an entry form you filled out, either on-line or at a major mall or movie theater.

We actually have some decent news in regards to the Horizons and Ford Explorer contest. We have an address, claim number, and further details for you. Since all prizes are well over $500, we will need a few moments of your time to cover all related lottery-type information from procuring your prizes due to any tax issues on them.

Sincere congratulations!

P.S. For your convenience, we are available 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM Central Standard Time, Monday to Friday

They probably want your social security number "for tax purposes." It sounds very scam-like.

Yeah, I figured as much, but I obviously would never give it out to them. Can I somehow check how legit the 866 number is?

Yeah it just seemed fishy that it didn't have a link to the original contest I would have entered.

I'm not sure how to read that. It appears so, but the 866 number is still working.

They have sports talk as hold music. Definitely seems fake, but I want to know what they ask for.

Call the state attorney general's office and see if there are any complaints or actions pending against them.

OK that was definitely strange. She said they do contest verification for 35 states. They pulled up my "record" with my phone number and full name. Asked me some survey questions. Do you fall between 25 and 69? Would you say your annual household income is above or below 50,000? Are you single married or cohabitating? Apparently because I am not married or cohabitating I was not a sweepstakes winner, and they wished me luck with any other sweepstakes or something to that effect. Didn't ask me for address, other than town and state, and did not ask me any financial information.

Since you don't have a SO, they don't have two people to use their sales pitch on when they send you to sit in on their "20 minute" presentation before sending you off to your feww weekend getaway or whatever else they're giving away. I've had one of those before also.

It was absolutely not a survey in the sense of part of the market research business. They violated the CASRO rules massively.

He just signed himself up to get a ton of unwanted mail. Plus as another poster said, you were dq'd because they wanted you for a crappy timeshare pitch. You would have "won" a trip to some timeshare place and have to put up with their pitch.

Just email I guess, because they never mentioned having my address other than my town.
