Do you spread wood chips on your property?
If you do, I have to ask...WHY? They look great and smell great for about 24hrs, and then people and their pets and other living things of nature, move the chips around everywhere except it should be, and it looks like a disaster.

I don't spread it out all over my propery, but I do put it on some beds. In addition to helping retain moisture, it is more pleasing to look at than dirt. Beside, cedar chips naturally repel insects and I really do not have people wandering through.

do not spread wood chips onto your property near or around your house, that is a perfect breeding ground for termites.

I don't think my apartment complex would appreciate me putting broken furniture on their property.

Let me see.....spread wood chips or mow and weed-eat alot.......
Seriously, it keeps weeds to a minimum and retains moisture for plants and trees.

Here's a tip, if you have a large area that you need to mulch. Call your local tree removal company and ask them if they can dump some of their shredded trees that they ran through a wood chipper in your driveway. They have to pay to dump the stuff so they will give it to you for free, so they shouldnt have a problem dumping 10 wheelbarrows worth in your driveway, just dont let it sit there when they dump it. Also instead of black landscape lining to keep the weeds from coming through, place a section of newspaper down, not one sheet, but like 5-10 pages worth per section you want covered.

We're talking about spreading them around bushes/plants, yeah? I have chips all around my house after two years of using straw. I think I'm going to go back to straw this spring since it doesn't end up all over the place as much. Probably cheaper as well. What I'm curious about is what it's like to have rocks all around. Seems like a pain.
