Since I haven't posted about my puppy yet.... PUPPY!!!!

Tyson is a Bullmastiff from Texas. We picked him up from the airport on 12/11. He was 18lbs. at the time.

This first set of pics are from the day we picked him up:

He's getting sooo big, already.. Went to the vet yesterday, and he's now 33 lbs!! Here are some more recent pics:

That's my wife holding him in the last picture. She's not gonna be able to do that for much longer!

Awesome dog. After 2+ years, I was finally 'ready' for another dog, and it feels great. He's been doing really well with his training so far too... VERY smart..

There were 3 mastiffs in the puppy obedience classes where I took my dog. The male mastiff's back came up to my chest. The thing was HUGE! It was so gentle though. I think it was an English mastiff.

If I ever move back out to the country, and get a big house, I will have a mastiff some day. My dog is part Rott, part English bull dog.

How big is he supposed to get? And you didn't tell us his name!

what you see in those pics with the cats is the basic confrontation they go through.. he wants to play with them - walks up to them, gives them a little paw nudge, they want nothing to do with him and the ears go back, like 'get the fuck away from me', he then does this little hop-around-while-barking-at-them thing, which makes the cats nervous and pisses them off more, so they give him some swats on the nose...

that about sums it up.. he actually runs away from them if they really get on the offensive..

Those cats look delighted to have a new friend. Have they taken a protest shit on the rug yet?

It's a fallacy that you need a yard for a mastiff. These dogs are regal and will lay by your feet happily all day. They don't even need that much exercise.

Great dogs, but they do slobber. A lot. A friend of mine had a beautiful fawn named Ayla and she kept a towel handy to wipe the dog's muzzle.

My Newfoundland and my cat still play really, really rough... even though my 130 pound Newf now weighs approximately 60 times more than the cat. Harvey will often "fight" laying on his back, though... so he doesn't accidentally trample Levi.

And I've actually seen the cat climb inside Harvey's mouth and nip him on the tongue. He gets away with it, too.

Most of the Mastiff-descended breeds (which includes Newfoundlands) are famous for treating smaller animals with kid gloves.

EDIT: And prepare to wait about THREE YEARS for Tyson to get fully grown.

Great looking puppy mkdevo!

You can always buy a saddle and ride him to work in a year or two if your car breaks down
