I'm appartment hunting and need some help/info
Im looking for an apartment and every place I find, weither it be a dump, or a nice place, requires a credit check, you must make 3x salry, and two previous landlord refrences. I dont have any of these things. Its not that i have bad credit, I just dont have credit. I also have only lived with friends/parents, never official landlord. I also dont have anyone to co-sign with me. Anyone know a way to find appartments that dont require these things? even if they are shitholes? Is there a trick to finding appartments?
I've tried using the phone book and classifieds and they all require the same stuff as above. THe only thing i thought about doing is finding an area of town that has the most check cashing places and look for appartments around there. Anyone got any ideas? Thanks-

That's wild, I thought it was a renter's market right now.
I would find a place you like (and can afford), and fill out an application anyways. If they are desperate enough, and you don't seem too odd, they'll probably overlook the missing paperwork.

What I did was have my mom pose as my landlord so I had a reference. Just have you friends do that for you. I'm sure they will, they don't seem to ask too many questions, and usually will just fax paper work over.
As for a credit check when I was apartment hunting they just looked to see that I didn't have tons of past due bills. My ex was able to get an apartment and he filed bankruptcy 2 years before.

Shouldn't be a problem. Everyone has to start out somewhere. The only thing I can think of is if you can put together two month's deposit or pay two months in advance, that might let them rent to you.
Or, find a landlord (i.e. not a company who rents apartments). |

The only thing they would likely reject you for is if your salary is too small. In that case, you probably shouldn't be renting that apartment anyway.

i never ask applicants for references from previous landlords. when they ask why, i ask them what kind of a reference they would give their worst tenants. it's a lot harder to fake your credit and employment/income. i usually ask for a guarantor if the applicant doesn't have enough of either.
