I'm up around Ft. Lauderdale. It's been pretty windy, but seems to be getting quieter in the last hour or so. Or maybe I'm losing my hearing. Either way I can't complain.

Check the path this thing took. As soon as it made landfall, it actually hooked southward (toward Miami) and now is heading west again. They didn't predict that at all.

MIAMI (CBS News/AP) Hurricane Katrina toppled trees, peeled off roofs and left more than 1.3 million customers without power as it slammed into Florida's densely populated southeastern coast Thursday with driving rains and sustained winds of 80 mph. Two people were killed by falling trees.

The storm strengthened into a Category 1 hurricane just before it made landfall along the Miami-Dade and Broward county line between Hallandale Beach and North Miami Beach. Radars indicated that up to 15 inches of rain fell in parts of Miami-Dade County and caused severe flooding, forcing dozens of families to leave their homes.

Miami-Dade Fire-Rescue units are at the Dolphin Expressway near Doral after an overpass under construction at 97th Avenue apparently collapsed onto the county’s busiest east-west artery. There is no information about possible injuries, but there apparently was traffic on the roadway when the incident happened.

I cannot believe it is going to spank Pensacola AGAIN..this will be three in a year!!!

Personally I say...bring it on over to Texas, we'll show it a thing or two. Lets see it cross our state and pop out the other side in tact!!!!

Nah, I'm inland and on a cluster of hills. The worst thing Tallahassee ever gets is minor flooding in the low areas from excessive rain, and the odd tornado. They might close the college Monday, though, free day off!

Wasn't too bad here. I got a glancing blow. Actually felt the eye for about 5 minutes. Calm for a few minutes, then back. Lucky I'm in a new area so no real damage. A tree fell down in my back yard, lost power a half dozen times for a few seconds, and lost *GASP* internet for 6 hours.

It really is amazing the difference between "old" construction and those with new "hurricane" precautions. All that little stuff really makes a huge difference.

Their guessing this may build back up to a Cat 4 before it makes landfall again. The map in my post above should update as the information changes, but right now their estimating landfall in LA or AL.

It took a crazy turn and went southwest last night....weird. I'm happy it did what it did, but the people in Miami-Dade still got crunched. What looked like a 'rain event' (as they referred to it on the weather) did quite a bit of damage.

Hope the other S. FL member's are safe.

Just got power back here to. Looks like I need to change my location. 24+ hours of no electricity sucks. Thank God it came back so quick. FPL !

As for damage, our house is fine. We had 14, 55 gallon garbage bags worth of tree branches and other various plants.

Ugh...

Here in New Orleans, I saw long lines forming in the gas stations tonight. I wasn't watching the local news but I guessed correctly that the hurricane must be headed in this direction.

Thanks for the love guys.

I still got no power, unfortunately. And my living room got hosed when a tree crashed into my window and flooded the joint out. It's now boarded up and I snapped pictures of everything, through a lot of destroyed junk out, and am now staying in an Embassy Suites in Fort Lauderdale.

AIR CONDITIONING! POWER! TEEVEE!!!! And a big ass king-sized bed. No more bathtub shenannigans for this kid. Not until brunch.

Seriously, NOBODY in Miami-Dade county was expecting this to be this bad. This storm was aiming towards North Broward/Boca Raton, and it was "only" a Cat 1. HAH!! Thing turned to the south and smacked us, but hard. I lived through Andrew in 92, a Cat 5, and thought this would be a piece of cake. I know better now. A Cat 1 Hurricane is still a Hurricane.

And what makes things even more bizarre, three surly

Oh God. If it hits New Orleans it will be a month before the water get out. Note I didn't say "go down" as it can't go down. New Orleans is below sea level! I know they have some stuff in place for drainage, but with that much water, good luck!
