What did you want to be when you grew up?
When I was a kid I remember in Kindergarten we were asked this question.
Most kids voted for fire fighter or police officer. I voted for cowboy. We even had a few vote for Indian Chief. As I got a little older (fifth grade) I told my mother I wanted to be a tennis shoe salesman. I was really into Adidas and I think other boys are that way too. Right? She still reminds me of this. \ A local sporting goods store had a special room for shoes and I thought it would be such a cool work environment. It's funny that I now notice shoes more than my wife but I have no desire to be a shoe salesman. What did you wanna be? Did your dream come true?

Baseball player, but I lost interest in that by high school.
My sister's dream was much better than mine. We lived in a small town so of course we had the required Dairy Queen and ate there quite a bit. When she was six or seven she said that she wanted to be a pediatrician and to work at Dairy Queen. |

Firefighter at five. At 16 I wanted to work in TV as a director. And I'm doing that, BUT there are still times I don't know what I want to be when I grow up.
My grandmother told me when my father was a little kid he busted through the front door one day and yelled, "Mommy, when I grow up I'm going to be a chemist!!!!!". And he did do that very successfully. No, not basement chemist-type stuff ![]() |

I want to sit around in my underwear and play on the internet all day.
It's similar to what I do now, except that I'm wearing pants. |

Well my teen years were baseball. I was a leftie pitcher and working with a California Angels scout my Junior year. He had me up to 89 mph and I was 6'4" and 140 pounds at that time.
The summer before senior year we got a new coach that was all hated and all of the seniors quit. By then I was getting tired of baseball and figured the odds were against me and I'd waste many years on a bus in the minors so I just quit. My dad's best friend was a leftie pitcher and made it to AAA and now sells insurance. We ended up having two guys a year younger sign out of school. One got a big bonus from the Yankees and made it to AA. The other made it to A.

When I was 6 or 7 I wanted to be a Marine Biologist. When I discovered my semi-fear of swimming in the open ocean it was modified to Animal trainer or zoon keeper. I gave up this dream several years ago, right before I droped 40k a year, when I came to realization that the market was very small and the pay was equal to what I was making at Best Buy out of high school.

I went through the typical young kid aspirations - astronaut, cop, archeologist. I also thought it'd be cool to be a ninja, star athlete, or rock superstar.
Then I grew up, and wanted to be a doctor around 10th grade or so. ![]() |

I was determined to be a paranormal investigator and this was many years before The X-Files. Hauntings, mystical creatures, UFO sightings, I was going to do it all. Interestingly, I've still never watched one episode of X-Files.

Buford Said: Most kids voted for fire fighter or police officer. I voted for cowboy. We even had a few vote for Indian Chief. ----------- So, all of the Village People? ![]() In fifth grade when they had us write an essay on the topic, I said "Comedian." I was the only one who picked a non-typical Doctor-Lawyer-Fireman career. Before I wanted to be a singer, until I realized that I can't sing that well. I mean, I can do stuff like Janis Joplin, Grace Slick, and Patti Smith, but I don't have a "pretty" voice. More of a character voice. It's strong, though. Then later I realized that stand-up comedy wouldn't be all that exciting to me and I'd rather channel humor and other genres through the acting venue.

Luckily enough I always wanted to be radio. I grew up watching my father work at his station and I would spend hour every week at his station. And i'm proud to say that today I do my dream job. I consider myself very lucky.
