Oh no!!!!!! Brad Pitt has been hospitalized

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20050712/.../people_pitt_1

LOS ANGELES - Actor Brad Pitt has been hospitalized with a flu-like illness. Pitt, 41, checked himself into an undisclosed Los Angeles area hospital Monday night complaining of flu-like symptoms, his publicist Cindy Guagenti said Tuesday. There were no other details and the name of the hospital wasn't disclosed for security reasons.

Pitt was in Ethiopia last week with his "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" co-star Angelina Jolie to pick up the actress's newly adopted baby girl, the second child she has adopted. Guagenti said it wasn't known if the actor contracted the illness while in Africa.

"I think he has the flu," the spokeswoman said.

The "Troy" and "Fight Club" star separated from "Friends" actress Jennifer Aniston in January after 4 1/2 years of marriage and she filed for divorce in March citing irreconcilable differences

They adopted a kid from Africa? Wow, I guess there are no kids in America to adopt anymore. Who knew.

Apparently it's a better deed to get them from a different country. They're more "needy." As Homer Simpson said on adopting them "Great, another American job taken away by a foreigner."

Flu-like symptoms. Why is that news? I mean, unless you're trying to ditch your child molestation trial....

I hope someday I can become rich enough to adopt a kid from Africa and have sex with a woman who's lips are bigger than my 150-yr old Venus Fly Trap I have sitting out in my backyard.

Just make sure it's a quickie. Don't try to impress the Venus Fly Trap with your stamina. That's a mistake I'm not physically able to make again.

He just got back from Africa and is hospitalized for flu-like symptoms. It's possible it's not the flu. Probably malaria or ebola.

That sounds so funny. Like they went grocery shopping and picked out the best kid they could find.

My friend is adopting a child from Haiti. The reason many go out of the US is because we have some screwed up laws that give the biological parents too many rights to make some people feel comfortable. After reading through all the stuff, I feel the same way.

It is my understanding that you also have to be put on a waiting list. That many people have to wait a considerable about of time (even years) to adopt here.

Can you posts pics for comparison? And I don't mean pics of the guy from WKRP or you having sex with your Venus Flytrap. Hopefully I covered all the bases there.

Actor Brad Pitt released from L.A. hospital

http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20050714/...people_pitt_dc

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Film star Brad Pitt was released on Wednesday from a Los Angeles hospital where he had been admitted for a flu-like illness that turned out to be viral meningitis, his spokeswoman said.

Pitt, 41, was at home on Wednesday afternoon after his discharge and was "doing well," his publicist said in a statement.

The actor checked in to Cedars Sinai Medical Center on Monday night, a week after returning from a trip to East Africa.

His spokeswoman, Cindy Guagenti, said on Tuesday that the actor was undergoing tests but was believed to be suffering from the flu. After his release, her office issued a statement saying Pitt "was diagnosed with a mild case of viral meningitis."

No further information about his condition was offered.

Viral meningitis is an illness that involves inflammation of the tissues covering the brain and spinal cord. It is generally regarded as serious but is rarely fatal in persons with normal immune systems.

Pitt, who split up with his wife, actress Jennifer Aniston, earlier this year, traveled to Ethiopia last week with actress Angelina Jolie, his co-star in the movie "Mr. and Mrs. Smith," who went there to finalize the adoption of a baby girl.

The kid she adopted has aids. I think she said she wanted kids from around the world in really bad situations. She said she wanted like six of them so maybe she hasn't gotten around to kid from here yet.

It's understandable that Brad's immune system would be a little weakened due to all the..uhh..exertion.

I didn't know that there were two kinds of meningitis. Kind of scary that there are two diseases that look the same but have very different consequences.

Bacterial meningitis:
10%-15% of cases are fatal. Of patients who recover 10%-15% have permanent hearing loss, mental retardation, loss of limbs, or other serious sequelae.

Viral meningitis:
Viral ("aseptic") meningitis is serious but rarely fatal in persons with normal immune systems. Usually, the symptoms last from 7 to 10 days and the patient recovers completely. Bacterial meningitis, on the other hand, can be very serious and result in disability or death if not treated promptly. Often, the symptoms of viral meningitis and bacterial meningitis are the same. For this reason, if you think you or your child has meningitis, see your doctor as soon as possible.
