DVD Polizei gets honest with Tamale Boy

In the local neighborhood, we have a family who runs a local Mexican restaurant--great food by the way. About every week or two, his 10-yr old son knocks on my door, to see if I want any tamales. Well, last summer, their tamales gave me heartburn from hell. They are quite rich in chiles, so I'm thinking they changed the recipe and kicked it up a notch. In any case, I haven't been buying them for the past 3 months.

Finally, last night, I had to tell the kid, I love your tamales, but I just can't eat them anymore, because they give me heartburn so bad. I asked, "Do you have any less-spicy/hot tamales I could buy?" He replies, "We have the red tamales which are less spicy, and we have the green tamales, which are hotter."

"Ahhh, so which ones have I been buying?"

"The red ones."

"Oh."

Anyway, it kinda sucks. The kid is really nice, and his family cooks the best tamales I know of.

I knew a guy that sold tamales outside a grocery store near my old house. Great stuff, and really cheap. I don't think it's legal but hey at least they're trying to make a living

Door to door tamales are awesome. I wish I had access to some right now. There is a tamale cart only a few blocks away from my apartment that sells them for $1/each. Amazing.

I also miss the homemade sweet potato pie I used to get delivered to my door when I lived in Oakland. Yum.

I get them fresh every day here at work. There's a Mexican lady on the custodial staff and she sells them from her cart (the same cart where she keeps her cleaning supplies and extra rolls of toilet paper!). Good and spicy, they are.

If I had some kid who would bring tamales to my door, I wouldn't eat anything else. You need to move and let a true-blue tamale lover live there.

Have you tried Pepcid Complete. I get terrible heartburn from anything with tomatos in it and pepcid works wonders for me.

In grad school there was a guy who would come around once a week...he kind of rotated through various buildings on campus. He brought tamales, tacos, and burritos homemade by his mother...good god were they delicious.

Go buy a 14 day course of Prilosec and use it. Cures me up for like 6 months. Works great.

I could drink giant jars of battery acid right now and not have heartburn!
